    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Effie SHIVELY WHITE which was taken at the Polles Studio in Mansfield, Ohio. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Effie in her teens at the time. Based on limited research I believe that she is the daughter of Samuel & Letitia SHIVELY. The family can be traced through census records as follows: 1880 census of Weller, OH: Samuel SHIVELY, age 46, born OH, a Farmer, parents born PA Letitia SHIVELY, wife, age 42, born PA, Keeping House, parents born PA A. 3. You can get death certificates from the Ohio Historical Society site, also from Akron Public Library and I believe some others. You need to get the date and certificate number from the OHS site. 1908 to 1944. They actually have more but the index is not online. 3. Whitehall is a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. I don't know dates for your White. Marriage records from Vital Records in Columbus. Go on the Ohio Historical Society website, and it will give you the info. Also Franklin County Genealogical Society has a lotof stuff. Not sure if they have a web site but OHROOTS would be a good list to try and OHFRANKLIN . Both rootsweb.com. Sometimes those free sites are actually free. You just have to scroll down further to find the free stuff. 2. Grace
    3. For L. White Stinson - These are all of the Charles or Henry Whites indexed in Ohio in 1860, in the approximate age group you are looking for, with a father named William or just W.  Remember, enumerators [and parents!] made many mistakes in age, middle initials, places of birth, etc.  They had to ride on horseback, or in a buggy in all sorts of weather, take notes in pencil, go back to "the office" and transcribe the notes onto census forms in ink.  Of course, your Whites may have already moved on by 1860, or been "missed" by the enumerator or whoever indexed the census.  Let me know if you would like a copy of any of the original pages. 3. This is one of the common ways we are misled by some genealogy websites. Often all you get "free" is the address where you send the $$$ to order the records you want. The address is "free" (duh) but the records are not. Or sometimes the "free" records are just a handful of records submitted by a researcher who acquired these few while researching their own family. If anyone knows of a good source for Ohio records I hope they will post it. I haven't had very much success. I have had to pay for everything but the State office was reasonably prompt with Death Certificates. Also I think Ohio has more restrictions on who can get the information than some States. I guess they're just being more carful about identity theft. My Whites were not in Ohio so I can't help with anyone's Ohio Whites. Karen Illinois

I am trying to learn which William White, of the many of them, had a son named Charles Henry White b. in 1854 in Ohio (one census record says New York). Charles came west (I don't know how or when) and was married in Washington territory in 1881. The census states that Charles' parents were both born in New York.
