elsiemay, There seems to be a never ending supply of White families that arrived in the colonies from the very earliest colonial dates. Some of them must be related, however DNA has, so far, not matched my linage to any persons that are not already known to be directly connected to our family group. Yes! I have it documented for eight generations...at least for my direct ascendancy. I also have several branches from that family tree documented. My problem is that I can't any information as to the birth place or parentage of James Taylor White I born about 1700-1710 and married Elizabeth Powe. They appear in Orange Co., Va in Court Records for 1732. A William White appears to be related in some way as does a Rebecca Chism. Any help would be appreciated. 12 marker Family Tree DNA has, so far, has produced only one person that is verified as being related. All others have been a dead ends. Any help would be appreciated. Strangely enough, I have been able to validate all other directly related families ( Whitt, Altizer, Gray, O'Briant, Thielepape, Koch, Davenport, Gambill, Powe and Comstock) to to earlier dates than the one that my first cousin Gifford White and I have been able to validate on the White family. We have corresponded in the past. Remember, I'm the guy that you thought was your nephew. James Robert White --- "Virginia L. All, Many of you probably know about this, but I accidentally came upon this extraordinary web site, "a veritable treasury of letters and papers, dating from 1776. Mrs. Black is a descendant of Thomas White, who came to Monroe Co. in the 1820's, and his wife Jane Young White." The letters are transcribed, and there even is an index. Happy hunting from Laura in a chill NC. http://www.tngenweb.org/monroe/thwhite.htm
Jim, many thanks, soon I hope to get some info. from the White FT DNA site, and I belong to the British Isles Project #1. So, let us keep in touch... So far no connection with your particular line...but, the Whites started their surname in the main from Walter Le White, son of Maurice Fitz-Gerald, Conqueror of South Ireland, Dublin and Wexford in particular. One Tracy Tucker of my project with 12-12 match traced his earliest ancestor, one Thomas Tucker of Finglas parish, (North Dublin) Dublin Co., Ireland. Of interest also, was the Tucker lineage from Va., Charles City Co., Amelia Co., Lunenburg Co., and Mecklenburg Co., all Va., prior to 1850 Lincoln Co., TN. Removal. I believe our line is that traced pedigreewise on the internet re: the Fitz-Gerald family with their White family origins--back to Otho Gherardini of Tuscany, Italy. But more DNA work must come in to help this pedigree via verification. I am a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, trying to preserve our Confederate heritage, history. I do Confederate Texas art in honor of my Upshur Co., Texas ancestors. If you would like to see such work out of curiosity I would be happy to give you details for on-line viewing/e-mail. I am trying to find parents of my g-g-grandmother, SALLY (WHITE) WALLIS who died in 1881 in Gloucester, MA. Sally married Issavher Bray who died in war of 1812, and then married JOSEPH WALLIS. I have her obit from the paper and her death record that gives her parents as STEPHEN WHITE and SARAH____. Sally (most of the time, spelled SALLY), was born in 1790 (given a couple of years) records say Gloucester, but I do not have names of her siblings. My records were given in my Grandmother's Bible, so they have proved correct. But Sally's birth date is not there, but her death date is listed. I do have her obit from the paper. Any clue will help. I was also thinking about having my husband take part in a WHITE DNA project, because we have not been able to trace his branch back further than the mid 1800's in Indiana. Please let me know if I understand the project correctly; - if we take part in the WHITE family surname project we will be informed of names of any individuals who share "close" DNA markers? -we will be informed of locations of possible migration of WHITE ancestors? (internationally? -we will be informed if in the future, matches to the DNA are made? _____________________________________________________________________ John White of SD ancestors from England or Ireland??
