    3. Anita: Herry Calhoun White is not a name that I have ever heard of in the family. Interesting how things happen though. I grew up in Highlands and am writing this from there right now. I am guessing that White's Lake on the San Jacinto River is named after Henry C. White. My GG grandfather, John Cary White was born in GA around 1818 and came to Texas before 1836. On April 21, 1836 he fought in the Battle of San Jacinto ( which is only about 2 miles from Highlands) and was granted 640 Ac. of land in Millican, Grimes county Texas. His son was named James C White and his grandson ( my grandfather) was also named James C. White. They all lived around Navasota in Grimes County. My grandfather married Elizabeth Keefer from around North Zulch in Madison County and after moving around throughout Texas retired back in North Zulch. 2. James White
    3. John, Your assumptions are not correct.. White's Lake near Highlands was named for Jesse White, It was on his original grant as part of the "Old 300". He was the son of William and Amy White, born in St. Martinville area of LA. After Williams death in 1805, Amy moved with the "old 300" group in 1824 to TX with some of her children to the Highlands area (initially called White's Settlement) the name was changed to Highlands when they opened a Post Office there and found that another town was using the White Settlement name.. They claimed lands on both sides of the San Jacinto River from slightly below what is now I-10 to above Crosby, TX Some of her children were Reuben White, Jesse White, George White, William White, Mary/William Whitlock, Rebecca/Presley Gill, Henry White and others. James Taylor White of present day Chambers County was her brother-in-law. Many other members of the White and related families moved to Texas a little later and claimed lands in east and central Texas. Reuben's Rifle in on display at the San Jacinto Battleground Museum. I descend from the union of George and Rebecca Morris Phipps White (son of William White and Amy Comstock White. I have hundreds of pages of documentation on this family group prior to TX dates and to current time on George White Group. Henry Calhoun White was one of four sons from George and Rebecca marriage. 2. Hello Anita: Going to Rootsweb and checking the Social Securtiy death data base for Broward County and Dade County, Florida I came up with the names below. Links below. I have not done very much research here in Florida; so am not sure of all the research tools available here. Have a good feeling that the "Harold White" in Hollywood Florida might be a connection. You might contact one of the people (volunteers) at either the Broward County site or the Dade County site. Hollywood Florida is in Broward County just north of Dade County(Miami). Likely, there is a death certificate for Harold E. White; and possibly a birth certificate for your Charles Edward White born in 1932. Good luck. Right now I am busy with other things; but if time permits me. I will look try to remember to look further. Good Hunting! 3. Hi Anita: Most of my White family is from Madison and Grimes county Texas. The White side of our family is very small (I am the only survivor for 3 generations back) Madison county is one of the less populated counties in central Texas -- it only has about 15,000 people currently-- and there has not been much construction or industry- mostly ranching. The only real construction that was going on in the mid 1950's would have been pipeline and oil field construction. That probably will not help much because most workers were very mobile and moved with the jobs and were probably just passing through Madison county. The male Whites in my family were named J. C. White. -- either James Cobb or John Cary. That naming goes back to before the Texas revolution in 1836. 3. John, Was there a Henry Calhoun White in your group. He would have been my great grandfather's brother. Born about 1837 near Highlands, TX,but moved to Falls, San Saba and a couple of other counties in TX before moving to the Pensacola, FL area. A great grandfather was the last to hear from him about 1890. He was a constable at that time. Does any of this sound familiar --- John Adams <jadams@mba1976.hbs.edu> wrote: > Hi Anita: > Most of my White family is from Madison and Grimes > county Texas. 3. If you have an idea on your father's birth date you can write to Sacramento, California (Driver's License Bureau) and just tell them you are trying to locate your father. If he lives in California they would send him a letter and let him know you want to get in contact with him. It would then be up to him if he wants to make contact with you. My sister, and I wrote about a cousin, and we relocated him after a number of years. It only cost us five dollars to contact him. There is also a web site: www.privateeye.com that you can check with. Some of the information is free. Elsie W.

    2. This is what I have so far on my husbands line. He was descended from Priscilla White Crose b. ca. 1800 Kentucky. Her parents were Thomas White, and Nancy unknown. Her siblings were: William White, Holly White James White, Nicholas White, and Nancy White. Thomas White, and wife Nancy were from Surrey County NC. They moved to S.Carolina sometime around 1791 where sister Nancy was born in that year. William was born in 1793 in SC, by 1800 the family had moved to Bath County Kentucky where the father Thomas White died. William married Tabitha Jacks in Bath County in 1814. The brother of Tabitha, William Milton Jacks married sister nancy White in 1810. I do not have the death date of their mother Nancy or where she died. There was a deed of property sale listing all of this family in Bath County, KY. This deed recorded the sale of property of the late Thomas White. The family then moved to madison County, Ky sometime around 1815. Shortly after that they moved to Boone County, Missouri. They arrived in Mo. in 1834 along with the Jacks, Crose, and Prather Families. It is interesting to note that these families moved together over the period of 30 years. You can see several White lines listed below. My husbands line: Thomas White m. Nancy Priscilla White b. ca 1800 married (1) Samuel Crose (2) Asa Hubbard. children of Priscilla and Asa hubbard: 1. Thomas Jefferson Hubbard b. 1841 m_. Susan WHITE b. 1847 daughter of Joel WHITE & Melvina Brundridge 2. Nancy White Children of Thomas Jefferson Hubbard & Susan Jane WHITE 1. Bessie Pearl Hubbard b.
