    2. Nathan: Yes, I retired from my judgeship in Memphis, TN1998 after 10 years on the bench. I now head up business & legal affairs for a joint venture record company in Los Angeles. Talk about culture shock!! I stay pretty busy and have not had time to do much research.....just monitor these emails trying to find a new piece of the puzzle. I am still relying, although thinly, on John White being the father of Mordecai. OL Gilchrist is a fine fellow. I met with him and his wife in TN before leaving for CA and he is really busy on this task. Maybe he will lead us to the promised land. Best regards, Sam

    2. My White line goes back to Mordecai White in Bertie county, NC, who married a Mary Hardy. Their son was Luke White and then Peter, whose son was Allen, who emigrated into TN and eventually settled in Haywood county. Who was Ephriam? That's a new name for me. Sam

White, bn 1823-29 in SC, we think his father was John or Henry, who arrived in Thomas County, GA sometime in the 1830's. Joseph G. married Winnie Elizabeth Barwick, 1848. The names Thomas, Fanny, John, William, James, Sarah, Henrietta were some of the popular names our family used. Joseph G. named his first son John Henry. and his first daughter Sarah Ann. We can't get back from Ga. to SC or NC, but we know they came from there. Thanking you in advance for any help. John W. White Brooksville, FL

    1. Re: Re: [WHITE] Re: John White
    2. Nathan: I think you and I have corresponded in the past. I believe I am descended from Luke White, son of Mordecai. Luke's son was Peter White (served in 10th NC Line in Rev War); Peter's son was Allen White, who came west to TN and eventually settled and died in Haywood County, Tn; Allen's son was Peter Doss White, who fought with 47th TN Inf CSA and died from illness in July, 1863 (buried in Gibson County, TN); Peter Doss White's son was Peter Doss White (Jr?), a travelling musicain; his son was my maternal grandfather, Allen Doss White. I am still looking for the link beyond Mordecai. For a while, I thought it was a John White who came into Bertie county, NC from Isle of Wight, VA in 1701, according to "New World Immigrants" by Tepper. The sibling names match, but Mordecai doesn't show up. I assumed Mordecai was born after 1701 in Bertie county, but cannot confirm this. Please let me know if you have more and I will keep you on my list. Best regards, Sam

    1. Re: [WHITE] WHITE family in Wetzel Co, WV
    2. Hello fellow listers, It is very probably just a coincidence, but my line of Whites traces through Grafton, then William, then John Darling, then Eli, then Charles, then James Franklin all of whom except the last were farmers who settled along the Brushy Branch or White Creek Branch of Dunkard Creek in Monongalia County about 6 or 7 miles from Hundred, WV ( which is, of course, in Wetzel County). The time span extended from just after the Revolution until 1921, when my father James Franklin came over the mountain to attend Medical School in Baltimore. To compound the coincidence further, my grandfather Charles White found his bride Jane Evadna McCanns in Knob Fork, WV which is also in Wetzel County. Does any of this ring a bell with any subscriber ? If so, I would love to hear from you. We may be able to exchange information. James F. White, Jr. M.D.
