Hi, I am searching for connection with White and Gayle families who were in Springfield, IL during the Civil War. George W. Gayle married Ann White and had 2 daughters, Martha Jane who married Sebastian Rinehart (SR) McElhiney. This family later moved west to Nebraska in the late 1890's. Any info is appreciated. Hello, Here I go again with my WHITE Line. The following is all I have on the WHITES. First: It seems two brothers who purchased farms about 5 or 6 miles apart or even closer. John D. Maria, Another coincidence. Greene County abuts Monongalia County on the north, just over the Mason-Dixon Line. Some of my Whites spilled over that line into a wee settlement called Jollytown, PA. which is just about two miles from Maple, WV in Monongalia County where our White Family Reunion has been held annually for the last 114 or so years. I'll have to check my records for a Washington White or some of the others who had to do with Greene County. We may well be related! James F. White, Jr. M.D.
I must explain I have 2 White families I am trying to connect to MY WHITE FAMILY or to each other in Montgomery Co IL. James Carroll born OH ( no county known) mar Elizabeth Gamman or Grisham. Some say Susan CROMWELL WHITE was d/o Richard CROMWELL jr. born MD and Caroline Eichelberger. . Caroline Eichelberger d/o Jacob and Margaret ______of MD and OHIO. This info from MY notes and not proven. ANY connecting or help apreciated. MW
I have a John Dennis White (need birth date) who mar Lucinda Leanne Upchurch . She was born Jan 20, 1837 died in 1904, and they had at least one son named Wolford. John Dennis was son of William G White(need birthdate) who mar Nancy Dennis, who was born 1805 and died 1889. This William may go back to Samuel and Nancy Rankin White. Many of this White clan went to Ky and Il. But Nathan is name of my GGGGF, and the name is rampant in that line. Possible that your John D might have more than one marriage?? JeanW mccoy@gvtc.com. Nathan, you mentioned a distant cousin that had a good web site. Could you give me the url for his site? I am researching my WHITE line and have hit my "brick wall" with my great grandmother Emaline WHITE (1842-1919) who married William NORRIS (1838-1894). They lived in Piney Flatts, TN until about 1864 when they moved to what is now White Co., IL. Although I have lots of information about their descendants, I can't find anything about their parents and other ancestors. Family stories say that their ancestors may have come from AL, NC, or MS but I can't find anything. Anyway, I am interested in looking at your cousin's web site with the hope that I might find some tidbit of family info., but also because I am trying to put together a web site and would like to look at good web sites with the hope of learning and getting ideas from people knowledgeable about computers and genealogy who know what they are doing. Thanks, Earl
For you listers to WHITE site. I have no Benjamin in my files. I don't have any location for Joseph David White. Only clue I have for Margaret CARROLL White is that a son Isaac Newton White was born Fort Smith OH. This from obit of Isaac Newton White who died Dec. 1921 in Montgomery Co IL. and mar 1877 to Eliza THOMAS. Eliza had died 2 yr before Isaac Newton's death. On Isaac Newton White death cert. It has father born OH and mother UNKNOWN. I am trying to connect this White line to MY White LIne or to ANOTHER White/Carroll line in IL MW

Daniel Murray WHITE v. 12 Sept 1871 m. 23 May 1900 Anna SCHAFFNER (They lived in Dover, MA) This line is also connected somehow to O'Brien in Cambridge, MA. Family stories refer to cousins in Ohio. Any chance this line connects to these other WHITE/CARROLL lines? Ruthie Twigs1991@msn.com
Sam, I can imagine the culture shock. Yes, O.L. Gilchrist is a fine person and he really believes in sharing... a sometimes rare quality in today's world. He connected me with a White cousin who still lives in Bertie County, N.C., Aubrey "Bud" White. He came to visit me in Naples. They have a White reunion at the little country church in Baldwin County, Al every other year and he went to that last year. My cousin, (a woman), is pastor and she let him get up and make a talk. He has about burned out on this genealogy stuff and I haven't heard from him in a while. I have to let it go from time-to-time, also. Take care. I descend from Woodford White, born 1820. He ended up in Kanawha County, WV sometime before 1845, where he lived most of his life. But, according to some family records, he worked as a boat builder along the James River in Virginia. He had at least one brother named Bluford (or Renford). Can anyone help me? Thanks, Shannon White

White, Jr. M.D. James, If you are not on the Monongalia, Preston WV and Greene Co PA lits then you should get on them. There are several people on these lists who tie in to your Whites. I so far can't make the connection, although my line of Whites was in those counties. My earlierst proven White is: William George White born c. Dec 1817 Winchester, Frederick Co,VA, to Mary Strahan/Strahin/Strawn White and "unknown" White. Were living in Greene Co PA by 1830, probably by 1819. Mary's husband 'may' have been one Washington White, and they could be the Mary and Washington White who obtain a divorce in Greene County in 1831. Maria E. Brower, Grass Valley, CA

Sam, I think we are stuck at the same place. I cannot find out anything about John White, born about 1660 in Isle of Wight County, Va. My information is the same as your, I think. I show that Mordecai White was born about 1701 after his father and family moved to Bertie County, N.C. O.L. Gilchrist in Tennessee sent me the most up-to-date information. There was some uncertainty about which of Mordecai's sons was my ancestor. Some say William and others say Media White. Gilchrist sent me copies of some wills that seems to indicate Media White as my ancestor. The evidence is strong that Media's son, William, was my ancestor. I've checked all the internet genealogy sites and can find nothing further back. I am not free to travel and do some first hand research, so guess I'll be stuck for a while. I DO remember talking to you before and that you used to be a body guard to Elvis Presley. My great grandmother was Isabel (Isabella Presley), who married my great grandfather, Asa White. I could find nothing about her parents until recently. Someone sent me a census of Butler County, Al and in the household of Anthony Presley in 1850 was a daughter, Isabel, age 16. That would be just the right age for my great grandmother. I am curious if I am a distant relative of Elvis'. :-) I found another distant cousin on my mother's side in Macon, Ga. He had a picture of the 1953 Miss America. I asked him who she was and he replied, "my mother". It is his father who is my distant cousin. His site is the best genealogy site I have seen. He claims to be a computer guru and I think he has done an excellent job. Excuse me for rambling on. Do you live in California, now? Best wishes, Nathan JudgeT143@aol.com wrote: > Nathan: > I think you and I have corresponded in the past. I believe I am descended > from Luke White, son of Mordecai.
