I am seeking information about the family of Jerry WHITE who served with Andrew Jackson in the so-called "Indian Wars". I am descended from his daughter Mary and her husband Samuel NEELY (his second wife). Samuel was b. 11SEP1810. His parents were from South Carolina, but d. in Tennessee. I don't know if Samuel was b. in SC or TN, or if the WHITE family was from TN. Any help with this WHITE line would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Lynda

Hi All, An interesting article reached my mailbox from About.com & I thought I'd share the link for those who might be interested. Move over Columbus - the Ancient Romans got there first! So it was the sailors of Imperial Roman fleet who may have been the first to reach the New World! Back in 200 AD. http://royalty.about.com/medianews/royalty/library/weekly/aa021400a.htm Sincerely, Sharon Lantzy Wygant SSchu22739@aol.com Surnames: Anderson, Hasselor, Kingston, Lamer (Leamer, Lehmer), Lantzy (Lenzi), McAnulty,McCullough, McLane (McLain,McLean, McLene), O'Cain Patton, Robertson/Robinson, Shankle, Simpson, Sitter, Steen, Stuchell, Thompson (Thomson), White, Wygant.
Hello Retha: My wife's side were whites and they have a Alexander Edmondson Williamson (Alex) White born in 1869. We think he was born in England. His father was John White born in Scotland and his mother was a McWilliamson. Alex or "alphabet white" as he was known, founded Imperial Texas and raised a family there. He is buried in San Angelo, Tom Green Co. Texas. Does any of this sound familiar? Sincerely, Phil Daniel ZLDaniel@gte.net

I am very interested in communicating with any one who has WHITES in the Tom Green/Sterling co areas of Texas around 1880 as well as New Mexico. My ggfather CHARLIE WHITE may be related, trying to sort out the local Whites. He seems to have been a bit of a gunfighter and a scoundrel and spent time in Tx, New Mexico and Arizona eventually ending up in California, probably deserting several families along the way. He later changed his name and is buried in California as CHARLES LEWIS. Thanks, Retha ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! I am seeking information on a Dempsey White who was married by 1797 to Mary Smith, dau. of James Smith (d. 1799, Wilkes Co., GA). He is probably the "Demsey White" who pays taxes on 100 acres in Wilkes Co., GA (Capt. Thompson's Militia District). Other Whites paying taxes in this militia district are James White (1 poll only) and Willliam White (200 acres). This is the only year he appears in tax records in Wilkes Co. On 16 March 1801, he is among the heirs listed as receiving a share of James Smith's estate on behalf of his wife Mary. Mary White is named as a dau. in James Smith's 1797 will. I would like to know more about this couple and their descendants. From a post on GenForum, I found the following item; I have not been able to contact the submitter. I suspect it is the same Dempsey White. <quote from GenForum>: "Looking for info on ancestors and descendants of Demsey White, from Wilkes Cty GA to Miss in 1795 w/son Reuben. Reuben's son Nathan S. was b. 1811 and m. Narcissa Ann Gayden. The family later moved to Houston, TX. Dave Dixon <dixoneast@aol.com>" <unquote> I might also add that Mary Smith White had siblings John Smith (m. Prudence? Barron; d. Jones Co., GA), Joseph Smith, Nathan Smith (m. Sarah Foster, d. Wilkes Co., GA), Jacob Smith, Martha Smith (m. William Barron; d. Butts Co., GA; Sarah Smith (m. William Thompson); Elizabeth/Zechie Smith (m. William Chaffin; d. GA), and Rachel Smith (m. David Collum; moved to Amite Co., MS by 1806). If anyone has additional information on this Dempsey White, I would very much like to hear from you. This is the first time I have posted to this list. I am trying to find the names of my gggrandfather's parents. His name was James Hillhouse White b.May 1802 in Derry County, Ireland. I do know his mother's first name was Mary. His father came to this country when James was a small child. He sent for his family when James was 16. They then came to the Lincoln/Gaston County area of North Carolina. James became an influential part of the formation of Gaston County in the 1840's. If there is anyone out there who may be able to help me find this information it would really be appreciated. Thanks Elaine White Toney
