    1. [WHITE] The Power of Words - Recovering the Family Skeleton
    2. This is just for a chuckle for your day, not meant to offend anyone. Also sent to multiple so I apologize if you get it more than once. Recovering the Family Skeleton You are working on your family genealogy and for sake of example, let's say that your great-great uncle, Remus Starr, a fellow lacking in character, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. A cousin has supplied you with the only known photograph of Remus, showing him standing on the gallows. On the back of the picture are the words: "Remus Starr: Horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison, 1885. Escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged, 1889." Pretty grim situation, right? But let's revise things a bit. We simply crop the picture, scan in an enlarged image and edit it with image processing software so that all that is seen is a head shot. Next we rewrite the text: "Remus Starr was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana Railroad. Beginning in 1885, he devoted several years of his life to service at a government facility, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run the by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed."

    3. I have more info on Elmer Ellsworth White: he married Minnie Louise Cromwell, dau. of John Cromwell & Sarah Price. They had dau. Vivian White m. Tom Mitchell, children Tom Mitchell Jr., Marilyn Mitchell; son Coe Cromwell White born 6/30/1893 Colfax, WA, died 2/28/1971 Long Beach, Ca; mar. Camille Elizabeth Hall; they had son Coe White, son Elmer Ellsworth White born 10/31/1895 who had a son Ellsworth White. I think I got this info from the LDS site. -----Original Message----- From: Emom4leg@aol.com [mailto:Emom4leg@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, March 02, 2000 9:12 PM To: WHITE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WHITE] Elmer Ellsworth White/A.B. White I have found another clue to the identity of my greatgrandfather Elmer Ellsworth White. In a closet I found a cane with this inscribed on the gold colored knob of it: Dr. A.B. White from Mrs. J. L. Adams 1884. The family story of this cane is that it belonged to the guardian of Elmer Ellsworth White. Nothing else is known about this guardian including when and where he became Elmer's guardian (if that is true). The Only things I know about my Elmer Ellsworth White is that his son's affidavit of birth indicates he was born in 1866 in Mansfield Ohio, he was married 03 Jul 1892 in Moscow Idaho to Minnie Louise Cromwell though residences of both listed as Colfax, Wa. Elmer died in Portland Or. 1905 and is buried in Lonefir Cemetary in Portland Or. The state of Or. can't find his death certificate and his marr. cert. does not list parents. Currently working on getting ahold of his birth records but just a year and not a specific date makes it almost impossible. The other obvious question that also pops up is that was he born with a different last name and then took on his guardian's name? Would appreciate any suggestions or any information on A.B. White (Dr.) that anyone might have. Thank you Ellen White
