Bill, Do you have information on the slaves that Joseph gave to James? I have a Maria White (birthdate unknown) who lived on a farm in what is now Darlington Co., SC. I believe she was a slave. She married a white man who was an overseer, surname Mangum. They had a son named Augustus White. Hew as born in 1859 and died in 1913. Thought there might possibly be a connection. Rilla, my Absolam White b 1828 Giles Co, Tn is supposed to have mar a Cherokee in Tippah Co, Ms., making my Grandfather's mother part Cherokee. However, the little information I have found on her does not indicate any Cherokee link. She was Mariah Munday Cherry White, who had mar first a Cherry and had a daughter Eliza Caroline. Her father was Samuel Munday, and she had just one brother, Wesley Munday. I found the obit in an old newspaper. Just a longshot that you might have run into these names. Hi, sorry to intrude, but noticed a John Wesley White b. Georgia in 1847. Do you have more information on him or his family? I've been trying to trace my ancestors, with little to no luck. I'm trying to locate Cyrus Wesley White, born April 20, 1858, had a brother Ellsworth White. Cyrus Wesley and Ellsworth were born in Hall County Georgia, then moved while still young on their own and ended up in Durant Oklahoma. Cyrus had five boys, Cyrus Lee, William Young, Howard, Eckie and Charley Lee. Do you recognize them or know of a connection? Thanks, Suz

I don't have a James and Paul to match yours. Don't know if this might help you, but I have copied the White pages from some Census indexes. In 1830, the only James White listed in Delaware County is on page 81 of Kingston Township. He was between 30 and 40 at that time, and I believe he is one of my Whites from WV. In the 1840 Census Index, the name James White is listed on page 208 of Brown Township, Delaware County, and on page 154 of Porter Township, Delaware County. There is no Paul White listed in Delaware County. In the 1850 Census Index, there is a James White on page 304 of "DLBR". I did not copy the codes, but that is probably Brown Township, Delaware County. The James from Porter Township is not listed, so he might be yours. I do not have access to the census microfilm. Maybe if someone could look up the Porter Township entry, you could get some more clues. Happy hunting, Margaret Wheaton
