I have a Sylvester White in my line, but he was born in 1882, Hardin Co., TN. He was one of six sons of William Augustus White and Jane Ann Pine Dexter Love White. Sylvester died in 1918. Hello all. I'm new to the list, so I'll post my interests in the hope that someone will recognize something. William WHITE was born about 1832 in Leeds, Yorkshire. He married Frances SINKER (born 1837) in 1862 in Chorlton, Manchester, England. They were both still alive at the time of the 1881 Census. William and Frances (a.k.a. Fanny) had six children: 1. Phyllis Lavena, born 10 February 1864 2. Henry, born about 1869 3. William born about 1871 4. Mary A., born about 1873 5. Sarah, born about 1876 6. Joseph, born 1880 In 1881, the family were living at 8 Wilson Street, Bradford, Lancashire. Everyone except the father William and the baby Joseph are reported as having been born in Openshaw (part of Manchester). [Joseph was born at Bradford.] Phyllis Lavena married Thomas George SPEAKE on 03 March 1883 in Bradford Beswick, Prestwich, Lancashire. This is in the Manchester area. Hi, Sandra; It took me a while to figure out the "AA" in your WHITE query, but reading the rest of the text, I think it's "Afro-American", correct? Have you found the slave schedules for the 1850 or 1860 census in that area of SC? And were you able to locate that same family on the 1870 or 1880 census? I was successful in finding some information on an "AA" family I researched in Tennessee. It's not easy, but keep at it. Check death indexes for slaveholders and get records of estates. They sometimes name the slaves they owned. Do you have access to that plantation's records in the county, or perhaps cemetery records, which sometimes will mention slaveholders? Also, there is a great site on the web which starts with "Afrigeneas", I think associated with the University of Mississippi, you may be able to browse and get to it. A great lot of help there. I am looking for information on John Francis White who married Susan Hobbs. They are my GGgrandparents. He was born in England, birth date is unknown. Susan was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on 2 June, 1811. Their children were Frank, William, Lilla, Mary Elizabeth, George Hobbs, and Henry Andrew. Henry Andrew (Great grandfather) was born in 1835 in Lowell, Massachusetts, died in 1875 in Dodge City, Kansas. He married Mary E. Smith on 14 April, 1858. She was born in 1835 and died in 1915. Their children were Harriett, Heneriette, Howard Andrew. Howard Andrew (grandfather) was born 9 April, 1868 in Norwalk, Connecticut and died 16 July 1943 in Wheaton Missouri. I'm STILL looking for information on John P. and wife, Mary, White. There was a John White in Williamson Co. who had a son, James, in Maury Co. according to deeds of 1815 and 1816. In "Tennessee Tidbits" there was a James White who died bef. 1841. Some of the heirs listed were: William Y.C. White, Thomas W. White, Newton K. White, Addison White, Milton White, Elenor W. White, Cynthia White, Eliza Hannum w. of Henry Hannum, Jane C. Humes w. of John N. Humes, Eliza White, Margaret White, Jane C. White, John P. White, James White, Elenor White and Susan White, children of James L. White deceased. Elizabeth White was the widow of James White. Looks like the John P. White was John Preston White. My g.g.grandmother was Eliza P. White b. 10/1833. She married Joseph H. Crockett,1851, in Columbia, Maury Co., TN. Her death certificate lists her parents as John P. and Mary White. White d and p of birth and death unknown. He married a Mary E. Sargent, b. Feb 17, 1843, d.Jan. 10, 1930 (per tombstone). It is believed that several of their children, Arron Eugene, Minnie Catura (my gm), Lawrence, Pearl, Ettie, Othella, and Harlston, may have been born in SC. Mary E., Pearl, Ettie, Othella, and Harlston are all buried in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins, TX. Minnie is buried in Mineola, Wood, TX. Lawrence was an MD who worked for the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. C.B. and Mary apparently migrated to the Gilmer, Upsher, TX area sometime before 1894, because Minnie, b. Jan 23, 1874, was a pupil of L. B. Hart, who was born in Gilmer, Upsher, TX. Minnie and L. B. subsequently married Feb 24, 1894 and were the parents of 6 children. Any information on C.
