This is an amazing site for the graves of famous, or infamous people. I found pictures of Jesse James in his coffin. He is in the Missouri section. http://www.findagrave.com/ ----- Original Message ----- From: Rilla <rilla@ixi.net> To: <WHITE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 14, 2000 1:46 AM Subject: Re: [WHITE] White Brothers, rode with Jessie James > Ya know...... it just seems to me that all these WHITEs hanging out in the > same area and being involved with the same people - almost HAD to be > related somewhere!! Red, I have been reading this controversy about the Whites riding with the James gang with interest. I , too, am a White. My Whites came from ME, WI and MO. There were so many in a family probably some did go to the South. Anyway, I have a brother who is red haired and they did call him Red White. When I read what you had written , I just had to comment on it. I'm in Ok so it is with interest , that I am seeing that some of the White families you are talking about live here in OK. Elnora White Bowen of Sapulpa, OK SWTEB@aol.com
George White, son of Robert White ,son of Elisha, son of John White. He was the first White to come to Caldwell County, Kentucky. Came first to Bourbon County and then to Caldwell. George's son John Nelson White was the father of my grandfather Robert Wylie White, who was the father of my dad, Shellie Edwin White.
You know guys I watch the History channel alot, I love the civil war journals, and I remember watching a show on James' brothers, and that did come up, I didn't have the sense to write down names, of the men involved. If you get a chance to watch, this show it is very interesting! Take care, Princess The names John and James run all throughout my lines! ----- Original Message ----- From: Red Anthony <redpata@hotmail.com> To: <WHITE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2000 5:20 PM Subject: Re: [WHITE] White Brothers, rode with Jessie James > Rilla: You were probably the one that contacted me before. Dorthy , Make that where were your Whites from?
Dorthy, Who were your Whites from Va? Kathy
Hello List: Someone asked about the name Boley being connected to the James Gang,,,and I have not found it so far. Texas was a favorite place for the Civil War Guerrillas and later after the war, for the James Gang. I have found several references to Bonham, Texas as a winter quarters for the Guerrillas. The men that rode with Quantrill were probably born before 1850, as he started in 1861 and was killed in early 1865. Frank James was with him most of the time, and was there in Kentucky when the war ended and Quantrill died. Jesse James, just 16 when he joined the raiders, had left them and went with a group to Texas. After the War is when the James Gang was started. Jesse learned his trade from the best, or worst, the likes of Quantrill, "Bloody Bill" Anderson, and George Todd, who was probably the best and smartest of the Raiders. Todd was probably the bravest, and was the best with a hand gun. He took over the raiders and drove Quantrill away at gunpoint, this is when he took a small group and went to Kentucky. Jesse's gang started about 1866-67, and lasted over 15 years. He had many different members, and was in contact with hundreds of people in this length of time,,,guess that's the reason there are so many Jesse James stories. With the common surname , White, there were surly many who met Jesse. I hope our list owner doesn't get tired of the James Gang. Ya know...... it just seems to me that all these WHITEs hanging out in the same area and being involved with the same people - almost HAD to be related somewhere!! Maybe it's my imagination - but a little bell is tinkling in my head about this. And I dunno about you folks - but my WHITE ancestors are serious brick walls, and have been to the family for over 100 years! I'm not the first one to try to straighten out this mess! And it also seems to me that they never wanted anyone to figure any of this out!! All I have on them is this: Father: Probably Nazareth White (I have a little more on him, but I won't include it here) Son: CC White - Possibly Cal or Calvin White - rode with Jesse James. He was my grandmother's Uncle. I think he's buried in Wichita Falls, TX. Daughter: Rilla Dudley - Dudley is only one of many maiden names I have for her. She was a Cherokee and sister to CC. (My grandmother's mother.) Mother used to take us to "visit the cousins" on the reservation. These relatives - were probably WHITEs, Dudleys, Webbs, Smiths, etc. So - two WHITE brothers run off to ride with Jesse James and the crowd. Who'se to say their cousin or younger brother CC didn't chase off after them?? Any one got any input on this?? Maybe I should just stay outa this! LOL Thanks!!
