    3. Hi WHITE seekers of Texas, I am seeking for years the parentage of WILLIAM HENRY WHITE born 1879/80 in COLORADO. Was living in Memphis Tenn in 1920. Have no idea where his prents came from or who they were? Help? Thought maybe they possibly might connect with any Whites who moved west. 1. RE: [WHITE] Col. Henry White: Rev. War, Whites in S.C. to Texas??
    2. Robert C. Johnston, Jr.
    3. David, I am very interested in knowing more about your Col. Henry White of SC. Do you know who his father was? Where in VA did your Col. Henry White come from? Can I get a picture of him in his uniform? I have an ancestor named Henry White who married Mary Sthreshley Starke. My Henry White was born in Virginia on April 20, 1778 and died in Elbert Co., GA on Sept. 16, 1842. He was the son Thomas White and Sarah Shelton of Orange and Albemarle Counties in VA. My Henry White lived on Vann's Creek on the GA side of the Savannah River. I have found him in SC records in the Old 96 District and Pendleton District. I haven't seen many "Henry White" men in early 1800's records, so I'm curious to know more about your Henry White and who his parents were and which White line he came from in Virginia; John White of Orange County or Stephen White of Caroline and Hanover County. Henry White: Rev. War, Whites in S.C. to Texas?? Hello, My 6th great grandfather was Col. Henry White of Spartanburg, S.C.. I have a file I have put together on my White line from that area, and I have an old pen and ink drawing of him in uniform that is an aged, old ornately carved wooden frame. I had some copies made of it too. I also have a little info on Col. White, but not much. If anyone has any info on Col. White it would be greatly appreciated. His great grandson was John Warren White, the son of Hiram White. J.W. White fought in The War for Southern Independence and along with three of his five brothers died in the war. I have a glass plate type pic of a C.S. officer in what appears to be the uniform of the Palmetto Sharpshooters, the unit the White brothers mostly served in. I wish I could know for sure who the pic was. After the war John Warren White's widow remarried a Mr. James Henry Calvert and they and some friends and relatives migrated to Cooke Co, Texas, the oldest son, Edward Walker White, the brother of my great grandfather Rev. Wm. Henry White, settled in Amarillo, opening a store there with his wife's brothers, the Kirks. The store was White and Kirk Drygoods or something like that. Edward was also in the mining business. I am also interested in meeting and corresponding with his descendents. I also have pics of him, his wife, Leota Alice Kirk, and their children, Dean White and a daughter I think. 3. Hey Rusty, My Whites came to Vir from England and then to S.C. to the Spartanburg area. but before and after the Civil War many Whites moved west to various states, including Texas. After the Civil War my g.g.grandmother remarried a Mr. Calvert (my g.g.grandfather dying in the war) and they and some friends and family migrated to Cooke Co, Texas. One of her sons, Edward Walker White moved to Amarillo and started a store with his brothers-n-law, called "White and Kirk" Wholesale and Retail, Drygoods, etc.. He was also successful in the Mining business as well. I suppose those Whites are still in those parts. That store did not close up until about 20 years ago. Other Whites went with them as well to different parts of the state. Jasper "Jack" White, the only White brother out of five to survive the Civil War, wnt out to Texas but I can't remember what county. I do remember that he had two sons, Bert and William. I would love to correspond with their descendents! There were some other Whites, cousins of my direct line, that went out to Texas. There were also some Wests and Rakestraws married into that line as well. On my McDowell line there were some Blacks and some Wyatts that married into that line and a bunch of them all went west as well. I will send you my White and McDowell file if you are interested. Perhaps there is something there of interest to you. It is funny you mention the Kings also. Those White brothers that died in The War for Southern Independence were the sons of Hiram and Sarah King White. I know nothing about Sarah King's family though. 2. Not sure how it is in Tennessee, but in the state of Texas, if one is willing to do all the leg work, a cemetery can be deemed a historical site as long as its at least 50 years old and one can prove its historical value or shows the definite presence of a family. Once designated and filed with the court, the county must take care of it. The filing fee is very cheap its just time consuming taking photos, getting a map, and taking a survey of it. Michelle

    3. Hmmm is the county not able to enforce this? My bil bought land that had a cemetery on it from 1853 I will admit it was overgrown and not known about till he cleared it out. But once found the county stepped in and told him he had to keep it a certain way. Had to have it fenced so stock could not get into the area, they tell him how to keep it ect. There were 7 graves there and now 2 of our family members are buried there also. Seems like since it was already established we could use it as present day cemetery. We live in Tx.
