If this sounds familiar to anyone, I'd really like to hear from you. Thank you, Pam James

In the off chance there is someone out there who might have this same Polly White, I am offering up the most confusing and conflicting mess of information w ith the hope that someone can help me sort it out and/or pin it down! I apologize up front for the length. My great-grandmother was Sarah E. White, b. 1858 in Logan WV. She married John Burgess in 1878. I was given information that her mother's name was Polly Ann White and father was unknown. This was my starting point. I was then told by someone in an email quite some time ago that on Sarah & John's marriage record, she was listed as the daughter of H & P(olly) White Bailey. I then later received conflicting information that Polly's husband was a Charles White. I then received a copy of Sarah White Burgess' death certificate wherein her brother George had listed her father's name as Mastin White. Now I'm beginning to wonder if this Polly White ever got married at all and was just going around having children. sigh..... Here's what I have found: On the 1850 Logan VA census, there is a Polly White listed as a cook for a John Bailey's family. This Polly would be the right age, ergo the possibility of "Bailey"? Also in the 1850 Logan VA census, I found Mastin White who is married to a Susan (Neely) White. (I got the Neely from old birth records online.) No mention of Polly. On the 1860 Logan VA census, Mastin White with his wife Susan and children are living next door to Charles White (age 58) and Polly White (age 31) with a list of children, which includes Sarah E., age 3, just the right age for my Sarah E. On the 1870 Logan WV census, Polly White is listed with four children and is now living next door to Charles White. This makes me think (or wonder) that perhaps Charles White is her FATHER! Mastin White is also listed on this census with his wife Susan but they are no longer living next door to Polly and her children. Next mystery, in looking at some transcribed old marriages for Logan Co. I find the following: Oct 21 1858 Logan Co. David Hail Farmer 19 Susan White 17 Fayette Co. VA Logan Co. VA Logan VA Logan VA John Hail Mar Mastin White Ann This is the one and only reference I have found anywhere so far that places Mastin White with someone other than Susan. A typo? And Ann? Polly Ann? And last but not least, on some transcribed birth records for 1859 in Logan Co. I found the following: Not Named F June 10, 1859 born out of wedlock mother: Polly White father not listed This matches up perfectly with the 1860 census, where the last child listed (right after Sarah E.) is listed as "not named" age 11/12, F. Has anyone out there found out who this Polly Ann White married -- or did she ever marry at all? Any suggestions, comments, leads, etc. would be greatly appreciated! I am a new resubscriber to this White list and new to DNA tests to be used to prove kinship. So, I wonder if there is, or has been, any White DNA test programs made to establish a connection between the KNOWN surname descendants of the old immigrants Hugh and Moses White/Hite/Whyte who were in Buck County, PA, in 1719, and were later in Lancaster Co., PA, and New Castle Del., respectively? I am a descendant of a Thomas White whose will was probated in Lancaster Co., PA, in 1778. Paul R. White [email protected]

I am looking for family of my earliest proven ancestor, William White, born 10 Jan 1755 at Fauquier Co VA per his RW pension record S 1735VA. Of course it was actually still Prince William Co VA until 1759 but surely he knew that but did not want to rock the boat getting his pension. I am sure he had a first wife and children from Fauquier Co VA and that unknown to me wife must have died in NC ca 1812 and he remarried a younger woman- Elizabeth ___. They had four children together who were all still considered minors when William White died at age 78 in Lincoln Co TN where he moved abt 1818. By Elizabeth __ the children were; Martha b 1814, James Franklin b 1816, Carr Bailey b 1818 and last child, William Clark was born 1820 in Lincoln Co TN. At age 58 years , he had married Elizabeth ____ born 1775 NC and had their first child together in ole Rowan Co NC on Reedy Creek near the Moravian line. In his pension application he stated that after Rev War he relocated to Rowan Co NC and lived there for abt 30 years. One of his sons, Carr Bailey White, had stated in his obit that he was born at Stokes Co NC. Rowan Co separated into many counties as in its original size it covered most of western NC. William White bought land his land on Reedy Creek in upper center of NC in 1800 from Isaac White of Wilkes Co NC, no relationship mentioned. Wilkes Co was also part of ole Rowan Co NC. The only sibling I have proof of is a John White, brother, who was also in Rev War and stationed at Alexandria VA during war. William stopped to visit him when his own tour was finished and found John too ill to continue and sent John home to get well. John caught up and resumed his place on the march to Williamsburg, VA. I would appreciate any info that might even be close as I am at the ' brick wall' and have been for many years. Ginny Keefer
