    3. I'm reposting this from awhile or so ago. My great grandparents were William Thomas WHITE (1884-1943) and Ida Lee MCELFRESH (1891-1965). I learned from William's death certificate that his parents were Joseph WHITE and Martha BRYANT. My grandfather believes that Martha was from Woodford Co., and Joseph was from either Fayette or Woodford. I have no dates or other info on them. My grandfather is their son, John Thomas WHITE. He was born in 1927 in Lexington. Anything sound familiar? Thanks, Anna White O'Keeffe

    3. My Richard White (b abt 1721) is found with wife Rebekah, in Loudoun Co, Va which at some point is also known as Orange Co, Va. I have tried for years to connect them to the SC Whites. The SC Whites mar into my Keown and Young family in SC abt 1770 to 1800, when many moved to Warren co, Ky and then to Marion Co, Ala by 1834. The Youngs etc are in Chalkley's Augusta Co, Va during the time my Whites are in Loudoun Co.. moving to SC abt 1760. My Whites from Loudoun/Orange Co Va in turn, moved to Overton, Jefferson, Greene C0 and areas of Tn, then to Limestone Co, Ala before settling in Tippah Co, Ms. Which is not far from Marion Co, Ala. My motive for noting the migrations for both families is that my Youngs are definitely placed back to a 1646 massacre of the Clan Lamont at Castle Toward in Scotland. The Chief's wife was a Mary Young, who escaped with her four sons, who took assumed names of Andrew Young, (William?) White, John Sitlington, and Greene. When I learned this, I retraced my steps on the Youngs, and sure enough in the Chalkley's Scotch Irish Chronicles of Augusta Co, Va all the names are found. And everywhere they migrated the names are near each other with many intermarriages. (I even have a Henry White who mar Leah Hide on Feb 15, 1808 in Jefferson Co, Tn. My Whites are there but I cannot connect to this man.) (I also have a record of Henry White who mar an unknown Greene and had a daughter b abt 1850). Could my Richard and your Henry be brothers or cousins or?? Does anyone have collateral connections of Lusk, Turner, McMillan, York (all branchs of Lamont)? My GGGGF White mar a Deborah York b 1804 in Randolph Co, NC. And my own GF White mar a McMillan in Hill Co, Tx abt 1880. This seems to indicate some kind of connection as they did tend to migrate together. But since they all named their sons the same names, I can't find anything concrete to tie the Whites back to Wm White and Clan Lamont. Wish someone else could think this was a viable research route. Other collateral names to my Loudoun Co, Va Whites are Coltharp, Haworth, Nixon, Janney, Hale, Byler, Keys, Maurice, Munday. Some notes on my Whites: Chalkley's Chronicles Page 498-499 Corporal Richard White's Declaration, September 24th, 1832: Age 76: Capt. John Sult, First Lieut. Zach Hendon, Capt. Benjamin Johnson, Lieut. George Warr, Lieut. Richard White, Col. Richardson, Major Quarles. Capt. Bellefield. Jeremiah White's Declaration: Entered under Capt. Joseph Spencer, Seventh Regiment, 1777, Capt. John Scott, Lieut. Zack Herndon. In 1781 entered under Capt. Belfield Cave, Lieut. Richard White. Hoping something here will ring a bell....email me . The within Inventory of the Estate of John White dec'd was this day Returned and ordered to be Recorded Teste Truly Recorded Thomas Read Clk Thomas Read CC Notes for MARY UNKNOWN: The will of William Johnston (Charlotte County, Virginia will book 1, p 127) mentions a Mary White as his daughter. Some, including Malcolm Elmore Walthall in "The Walthall Family, a Genealogical History of the Descendants of William Walthall of Virginia", pp 74 & A-4 use this as evidence that this was Mary, wife of John White. I find no evidence to substantiate this. Conversly, I find that Mary, daughter of William Johnston, was more likely to have been the wife of James White, no known relation. I have not found William Johnston mentioned with John White or his family in Charlotte court records. However, in Charlotte order book 3, p 109 (7-6-1772) William Johnson made himself a party to damages that were charged against James White by Buchanan, Hartie and Company. James White and William Johnson were both witnesses for Caleb Johnson in a suit against Landrum Butler as reported ibid., p 192 (11-2-1772). Even stronger evidence is in order book 4, p 197 (10-4-1779). Here, after the death of William, there is an indenture between James White, Mary White, and James Johnson (son and executor of Wm Johnson) on the one part and Robert Smith on the other part. Several people feel that Mary, wife of John White, was a Price. There is circumstantial evidence to support this, but as yet nothing concrete. ---- Ward H. In my family there was a Barnett White b July 27, 1727, Barnett White b 1752 and Barnett White b June 6, 1790. They have common ancestor of Wm and John White. Henry White migrated to the Spartanburg area in the 1750s if I am not mistaken. But the info from Col. Henry White down to me is for sure, put together and researched by my grandmother and her cousin in Spartanburg, S.C.. I also show Col. Henry White as also having a daughter named Elizebeth White who was born (acccording to my info) in Orange Co., Va. on 12/23/1762 and died in Robertson Co., Tennessee 11/11/1837. But I have her as married a Mr. Richard James in Spartanburg, S.C. in 1783. Perhaps your Mr. Tomlinson was a 1st husband or something. I will send you my White file that I put together for my immediate family's use. There are also a couple of small articles about Col. Henry White and his Rev War service in it also. I am glad to share it. 3. Hello Norma, The Henry White you mentioned that married Frances Barnette was my ancestor, Col. Henry White. I also have her parents as being the John and Marrian Gibbs Barnette that you mentioned. They or at least Marrian were also the grandparents of Agatha Gibbs, the wife of Col. Henry White's son John W. White. Col. Henry White lived in Orange Co., Va., before he and his family migrated to S.C. where he fought in the Rev War. Most of his kids were born in Orange Co., Va. too. In my file I have a Joseph White as his father, the info of which someone was kind enough to share with me. But I am unsure of the father, but my great grandfather Rev. Wm. Henry White wrote that two brothers came from England, one settleing in Va and the other settling in S.C., the latter becoming Col. Henry White of the Rev War there. The whole family probably came in from Penn to Va or straight to Va, but either way Col. Henry White migrated to the Spartanburg area in the 1750s if I am not mistaken. But the info from Col. Henry White down to me is for sure, put together and researched by my grandmother and her cousin in Spartanburg, S.C.. I also show Col. By his first marriage (name of wife is unknown), he had the following children: James, David, Joshua, Joseph, Hugh, Margaret, and another son. During this time, he moved to St. Charles Co., MO, but later moved to Pike Co., MO. By his second marriage (name of wife also unknown), he had the following children: William Henry, Richard, Edward, Nancy, Larrinda Ann, Elizabeth Jane, and Martha Susan. By his third marriage to Julia Ann Whitson in Pike Co. (1840), he had the following children: Mary and Samuel Allen. He died between 1847 and 1850 in Pike Co. I am descended from his daughter Elizabeth Jane. I would like to know the names of his parents and his first two wives. I would also like to discover his birthplace. Family oral history says that he was either born in Ohio or Wisconsin, but neither state had been formed in 1781. Barbara in Georgia
