Hi Allen, The John & Catherine WHITAKER mentioned in the article below by Beaumont Whitaker are my seventh great grandparents. Beaumont also wrote an article about the immigration of many of the WHITAKER, HAYS and WEST families to the Monongahela River Valley (PA) in the summer of 1767. John & Catherine's grandson John, son of Charles and my fifth great grandfather, left PA in 1780 for the falls of the Ohio. Beaumont also wrote an article "John Whitaker, Kentucky's Pioneer, Baptist Preacher." My WHITAKER line was my first research and you would have thought I had found a gold mine when I found these articles. I thought perhaps someone might be interested in the following: I have an article entitled "The Whitaker Family of Baltimore County, Maryland, 1677-1767" by Beaumont W. Whitaker photocopied from Maryland Historical Magazine, Vol. 79, No. 2, Summer, 1984, pp. 165-182. It has quite a lot of Genealogical information on John WHITACRE, beginning with "...a series of entries on pages 196 and 197 of the Register of St. Georges Parish (Anglican). These entries record the birth of six children of John and Catherine WHITACRE with birth dates ranging from 1687 to 1702." At this point in the text, there is a brief reference to the line of a Mark WHITACRE who d. May 1, 1729 and who m. (1) Catharine ? who d. November 15, 1717, and (2) Elizabeth EMSON whom Mark WHITACRE m. in 1718, a list of children of the marriage of Mark WHITACRE and Elizabeth EMSON is then listed. The text then states that "...although there are several Mark WHITACRE's Butler, Logan and Madison Counties in Kentucky, and central Tennessee, no direct connection can be made to the Maryland line" The lineage of John WHITACRE and his descendants of Baltimore (now Harford) County Maryland as derived from the public record as follows: 1.) John WHITACRE b. unknown m. (1) Catharine ? on date unknown; and (2) Mary ? on date unknown. John WHITACRE d. November 30, 1713. John WHITACRE and Mary ? had the following Children: i. Elizabeth b. January 12, 1686 ii. Ruth b. March 27, 1690 iii. John b. April 23, 1691 iv. Charles b. October 10, 1693 v. Peter b. April 27, 1696 vi. Sara b. November 10, 1699 vii. Abraham b. September 17, 1702 viii. Isaac b. ? ix. Hannah Hannah is listed in this article as marrying Alexander McComis on August 23, 1728, and this was her second marriage, which "made Hannah the stepmother of Mary McComis, who later married her nephew John (Charles, John). Being 17 pages long, there is quite a lot of information, so I won't attempt to transcribe it all here. If anyone is researching this or similar lines, and is interested in this article, please let me know via return e-mail. Thanks, and I hope everyone has a good weekend, and a safe Halloween. Allen A.
