I have found the following family in the 1860 Census of Illinois, Lasalle Co, p 1078, dwelling 3291, family 3305: William Whitaker, age 43, born NJ, farmer, $4000 real estate, $400 personal property; Pamela age 43 bn IN; male Francis age 18, born IN; Jonathan age 17 born IN; Mary age 16 born IN; John age 12 born IN; Margaret age 10 bn IL; Ruth age 6 born IL; Charles W. age 2 bn IL. I'd like to know more about this family, if anybody recognizes them. Two things about this family interest me. One is William's birthplace in NJ; most if not all of the NJ Whitakers descend from my immigrant ancestor, Richard Whitaker, who arrived in 1670. The other is that his next door neighbor is his apparent brother (or other relative) Ambrose. I believe in the relationship because he is two years older and also born in NJ.
