PLEASANT CLARKE WHITAKER, grandson of Abraham Whitaker of VA and son of Issac Whitaker and 3rd wife Charity Hardin (1767-1851), widow of Edward G. Clarke and mother of Gen. Bradley Clarke, was born in SC about 1818. Major in the Army of the Republic of Texas 18 May 1843. Married Rebecca Jane Hinton (1818 SC - 1874 TX), widow of William Capps 9 November 1841 in Robertson Co., TX. Shot and killed by his brother-in-law Bill Hinton on 27 December 1859 while serving as sheriff of Falls Co., TX. Known siblings: Thomas J. Whitaker (b. ca. 1810); James M.
