My direct line is from John Whitaker who died leaving a will in Baltimore County, MD. in 1713. There are zillions of descendents today. My line is through John's son Charles (1693-1739), through Charles' son Rev. John Whitaker (1722-1798) who migrated with his large family first to Western PA then in 1780 to the Louisville, KY area, through Rev. John's son Abraham, through Abraham's son Bland Ballard Whitaker (1803-1870) (often confused with another Bland Ballard Whitaker, a cousin who went to Indiana) who migrated to Ind then in 1835 to Illinois, ending up in Logan County, ILL., through his daughter Seretta, my Gr-Gr Grandmother. Early Baltimore County, MD Genealogy Bibliography In my hobby of colllecting Whitaker information I have gathered a fair amount of information. Happy to share. I have also purchased a lot of books of records of Baltimore County MD up to late 1700's. Happy to help do a look up as long as folks realize I have a full time job and may take a few days to get back to you. Some of the books I have regarding Baltimore County, MD. are: Baltimore County, MD., Deed Abstracts 1659-1750, by Robert Barnes (great book, gives history of who owned tracts of land by dates) Baltimore County, MD., Deed Records, vol. 3. 1755-1767, by John Davis (I do not have copies of other volumes, but I have copies of Whitaker pages) Maryland Rent Rolls, Baltimore and Anne Arundel Counties, 1700-1707, 1705-1724, from Md Hist Mag The Flower of the Maryland Palatinate, by Harry Newman (good for early history of MD in 1600's) St. George's Parish Registers, 1689-1793, by Bill and Martha Reamy (most of the Balt Whitakers are here) St. John's and St. George's Parish Registers, 1696-1851, by Henry Peden Jr. Records of St Paul's Parish, Baltimore County, MD., early 1700's through 1800, by Bill and Martha Reamy St. Thomas Parish Registers, 1732-1850, by Bill and Martha Reamy. County exists. Harford County is listed. Harford County was created from Eastern Baltimore County in 1773. 1783 Tax List of Baltimore County, MD., by Barnes and Carothers. Good material. Includes drawings of Horvath maps of "hundreds" (like districts) of the county. Excellent material usually listing land tract name, number of acres, # of white male, total # of whites, lists of single men, and paupers. Revolutionary Patriots of Baltimore Town and Baltimore County, MD. 1775-1783. by Henry Peden Quaker Records of Northern Maryland, 1716-1800, by Henry Peden Jr. (in case you are wondering, no Whitakers are listed in here) An excellent research book that I do not have a copy of (would buy one if I could find it) is Barnes', Families of Baltimore County, MD. I have made extensive copies of pages of the book relating to Whitaker's and related lines. I basically has mini-genealogies of most families of pre 1760 Baltimore County, MD. An excellent researcher and genealogist was the late Beaumont Whitaker, also a descendent of John Whitaker of Baltimore County, MD., through the same line as mine who went to KY., through a brother of my Abraham, son of Rev. John of KY. I have copies of three papers he wrote: The Whitaker Families of Baltimore County, MD. Whitakers on the Monongahela, about the extended family of Rev. John who moved to Western PA about 1767. A Paper on Rev. John Whitaker of Kentucky Beaumont's family gave his research material to the Jones Memorial Library in Lynchburg, VA. (where he lived), where it is keep in special collections. I visited there and copied most of his materials.
