Marion, If you are asking me....the answer is at this point we don't know who Robert Whitaker who was married to a Mary ? who came to Surry Co. NC abt. 1788 family was or even exactly where he was from - there is speculation that he was from Baltimore Co. MD. There was a Thomas Whitaker who lived near our William and Jonathan Whitaker (the two brothers of Robert and Mary) but he doesn't at this point seem to be related. However it is known that he is the son of Mark Whitaker and Catherine Empson of Baltimore Co. MD. I don't know anything about a John Whitaker of Baltimore Co. but would really like to find out more about him and whether he had a son or brother named Robert who came south. I don't believe Mark had any sons named Robert - do you know if John did? Any information gratefully accepted!!! Susan, Actually I was asking Richard. Sorry, I should have specified. There is an article "The Whitaker Family of Baltimore County, MD", by Beaumont Whitaker. It covers the John Whitacre family from 1677 to 1767. Some of the family migrated to PA, Kentucky and VA. My line stayed in MD. He does mention the family of Mark Whiteaker, but only he and his children. The names most common in the family were John, Charles, Isaac, Peter and Abraham. There were no Roberts. There appears to be no connection with the Surry County, NC Whitakers.
