Hi everyone, I am very interested in connecting with other who may be able to shed some light on Joseph Whittaker, born at sea about 1755. According to what information I have, his nationality was unknown; nor do I know the name of the ship. His parents reportedly died at sea and he was bound out in N.C. He was reputed to be a courier for George Washington during the Revolutionary War. He married Obedience "Biddie" Purdue and had a number of children. Does anyone have additional information that might help me in knowing more about him? Parenthetically, one of his sons was Aaron. One of Aaron's sons was William Aaron, who was my gr-gr-gr-grandfather. This Whittaker line went from Pulaski CO., Va to Giles CO., to Mercer Co., WV. THANKS ! Kyleen Gavin
Interesting! We have Joseph Musgrave Whitaker, born 1755 also, but christened in Leeds, England. Arived in America with the British troops and kdeserted in Maryland. Ended up first in Coventry, Chester co, Pa and then in Berks Co, PA as a weaver and woodcutter.
