I have been reading with interest the postings regarding the Surry County, NC. Whitakers. I have been collecting Whitaker information for years, but had never really looked hard at the large Surry County, NC clan. I have quite a bit of information about the early MD Whitakers and think I many have some connection information to Surry NC. I want to check a few more things before I post, but in the meantime, does anyone have lists of the children of the following early Surry NC Whitakers found in 1790 Census? William Whitaker Jonathan Whitaker I William and Jonathan seem to live next door to each other and I suspect they are brothers. Correct? Is this William the one who died in Surry NC leaving a will in 1824? I have seen referenced to them as sons of Robert Whitaker who died in Surry County, 1782 and wife Mary Whitaker. I cannot find documentation for this. Can anybody point me to records or is this personal history passed down? Johnson Whitaker. Johnson Whitaker is named in 1787 Surry County, NC will of his father THomas Whitaker. Does anyone know how this Johnson Whitaker is (or is not) related to William and Jonathan above? Thomas Whitaker's 1787 Surry County will names wife Mary, sons Mark and Johnson, daughters Elizabeth, Mary, Nancy, and Jane. The will is witnessed by Mark Whittacor and the 1782 Surry County Tax list shows a Mark Whitaker. This Mark is likely a brother or cousin and not the son. Anybody has a list of Johnson's children? In 1850 Surry County, NC census page 346 is listed an Isaac Whitaker age 77 (therefore born about 1773) and his wife Nancy age 78. Any body know which (if any) of the above Whitaker's Isaac is the son of? FYI per the first of these recent postings regarding Surry County, NC asking about Abner and Lucinda Whitaker Bagby: 1850 Surry County, NC Census page 192: Abner Bagley, age 39, Farmer, $350 property, born in NC Lucinda, age 27, born NC Johnathan W., age 13, b: NC Nancy A., age 10, b: NC RIchard L., age 9, b: NC Sarah E., age 7, b: NC William A., age 5, b: NC Robert C., age 3, b: NC Zachery T., age 3, b: NC. (Interesting to name child after Zachery Taylor before he was elected President under the WHIG party in 1848, He was also a famous general in 1845 war with Mexico. He was from VA. Never lived in NC.) By the way, my line is from early Baltimore County, MD, but went west to PA, KY and beyond. You say your line is from early Baltimore County. Would that be from John Whitacre or Mark Whitaker? Marion Baker
