Wanda, Abner and Lucinda Whitaker Bagby are my great-great grandparents also. That makes us second cousins! I am a descendant through their youngest son Charles Little Bagby, Wesley Micajah's (the name came to be thought of as McCarger because that is how Micajah sounded ) brother. I have a great deal of information on the Bagbys, the Phillips (back to Rev. George Phillips who came over in 1630 with Gov. John Winthrop to the Plymouth Colonies)-Abner's mother was Sarah Phillips Woodruff and his father William Bagby, and the Whitakers. I don't know if you were at the Bagby reunion 2 summers ago but I brought all my information there along with pictures of Abner and Lucinda and their family. I know there were Willis folks there. Anyway, you are right Lucinda's father was named Jonathan Whitkaer (they usually refer to him as Jonathan II since there was an older Jonathan, not his father) and his mother was Sarah Eliza (or Elizabeth ) Howard (her father was a William Howard, mother unknown). Jonathan II was born in Surry Co. NC as was his daughter Lucinda. I have information on all her siblings as well and many of the other decendants of this family. There are reunions held for them as well in Yadkin Co. every year. Jonathan's father was a William Whitaker and mother's name was Mary (surname unknown or it was also possibly Whitaker as well) William was born in Maryland - probably Baltimore Co. where his father Robert Whitaker and mother Mary (surname unknown) were from. This is where our line deadends for the present. Just recently I found that the information that had been passed down for years on the family - taking them back to England in the 1500s was based on a different Robert Whitaker son of John Whitaker and Jane Parker but this Robert Whitaker who was married to Mary Hall did not come to Surry Co. NC but died in 1754 in Cecil Co. MD long before our Robert and Mary came to Surry Co. NC and bought land in 1788 AND Robert himself died in 1788 before his land deed was signed - Mary had to sign it. They had one other known son Jonathan I - Jonathan I and William are the progenitors of the Surry Co. NC Whitaker clan of which we are a part. I literally have so much information I don't know where to begin to tell you everything. I should send you copies of everything I have and send you the Bagby, Phillips, Hunt (they married into the Phillips) and Whitaker text files from Family Treemaker - I have spent 3 to 4 years putting all their information (and more) in the program and there is no possible way that I could write to you everything. I live here in NC - in Winston-Salem My grandfather Alonzo Bagby had a men's clothing store here in Winston called Hine-Bagby Clothiers while he was alive and my mother grew up here, going to Salem College. We moved to NJ when I was 9 but I returned to live here in 1984. It is my mother's family that I have done the majority of my research on and therefore the Bagby's are my line from which everything else comes down to and so and near and dear to me. The search for William's father - still unknown has just about driven me crazy but somehow someday maybe we will sort it out. Somehow we are connected to the Virginia Bagbys and the John and James who came to Jamestown but as yet that too is unknown - we are missing one link....we have traced William back to Halifax Co. NC before he came to Surry and Wilkes Co. NC but there ...things get confusing. Anyway let me know if you can accept attachments and I will start sending you what I can via email and then I will start making paper copies of things and I will need your address to send you those - I have some great pictures including one the one of Abner and Lucinda with all their living adult children - except my great-grandfather for some reason - he was perhaps too young to sit still for the picture. The Phillips are a wonderful illustrious family as well with a lot of history behind them....fascinating stuff I think - I love it! Glad to meet another Bagby cousin!!! Your cousin, Susan Susan J.
