Hi, my name is Buddy Whiteaker. Your posting below to whitaker-d@rootsweb.com, WHITAKER-D DigestVolume 01 : Issue 125, about James Whitaker is of interest to me. > From: Pinochkio@aol.com > Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2001 20:57:12 EDT > To: whitaker-d@rootsweb.com > Subject: james whitaker > > we are descended from the allegheny county james whitaker--son isaac--son > abraham--son abraham--thomas--thomas--the end of our line married to ruth > elizabeth neel. this last whitaker--thomas whitacre passed away in 1966. i > would be glad to try and help you if you think this is your james---bonnie > jackson in pittsburgh. I am particularly interested in the fact that "...this last whitaker -- thomas whitacre ..." has the same spelling as my own ggg-father, Henderson Whitacre. The time and location of our ancestors is almost the same. Do you have any family that went on to Indiana in the late 1700s to early 1800s? Because of a court house fire that destroyed all records, I cannot trace Henderson Whitacre any further back than 1840, in Dubois County Indiana, where he married Mary A BEARD. Census records place Indiana as his place of birth, about 1814. He and Mary had at least two children: John Perry, and Minerva. >From all indications, my family came down the Ohio River and worked clearing land, about the turn of the 19th. century. Interestingly, there is a town in Ohio by the name of Minerva that I understand had some Whitacre families, but I cannot make a direct connection to Henderson's daughter, Minerva. About 1845 Henderson moved with the BEARD family, who were also in the land clearing business, to the southeast part of Missouri. We have good records of the family from that point in Perry, Cape Girardeau, Madison, St. Francois, Iron, and Ste. Genevieve Counties, Missouri. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might have an interest in the Henderson Whitacre/Whiteaker family which started in Indiana about 1814 and ended up with one of the original Land Patents in Perry County, Missouri for a homestead in 1857. Thanks, Buddy Whiteaker, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
