Dear Cousin - Fantastic! I have 3 sheets of Birth, Marriages, and Deaths in beautiful handwriting one of which says Lavinia Whitaker daughter of James & Sarah Whitaker and John Fernley son of James & Elizabeth Fernley were married July 5th 1853. On the Deaths list I have "Died of Yellow fever June 1842 at La Puente National on "National Bridge" a small town on the road between Mexico & Vera Cruz Dr. F. A. Whitaker eldest son of James & Sarah aged 28 years and 7 months" Do I understand that your great-great grandfather was this Dr. Francis Asbury Whitaker that died in Mexico? I don't have a marriage for him listed on the Marriages sheet (but then the complete first names are not given on these lists either). We have often wondered about him and why he was in Mexico. Do you have the history? How may I obtain the information on Joseph Musgrove and Sarah Updegrove Whitaker? I am thrilled to have this information. I can't thank you enough. I can't believe that I never answered this letter - but I find it here in my inbox as I'm spending the morning trying to file and delete too much stuff! My grandfather was John Fernley Simpers, named for the husband of a favorite cousin of his mother Rachel E (Whitaker). Francis Asbury was Rachel's father. He was a younger son of Joseph Musgrave Whitaker. Your James was one of the older sons. My Francis Asbury is buried in Philadelphia. I would love a copy of your three sheets of Whitaker info. And I would be glad to send you my Whitaker booklet. My address is Cathy Berger, 525 Egolf Rd, Bedford, PA.
