Linda, There were several Whitaker family crests for different branches of the Whitaker family. As I understand it the College of Arms only allowed one to use a crest if they were a first born son of the man granted the crest. The crest in the Jonathan Whitaker I. line was a shield with three diamonds and a white horse atop with the motto "Faith Conquers, Truth Retains". There is another crest with a helmet atop, and I believe one with a hand holding a sword. It is not permissable to use a particular crest unless you can prove direct descent.
