    3. We have a TN Whitaker - Melvina Whitaker (Whiteaker), married August 15, 1843 in Claiborne County, TN to James Campbell. Have not been able to identify who her parents were. We do know there had to be a connection of some sort to John Whitaker and Dorcas Campbell, since James and Melvina's son Eldridge was in John Whitaker's household in Ft. Madison, Lee County, Iowa by 1850 and again in 1860 in Edina, Knox County, Missouri. 1. [WHITAKER] Obits for Deacon J. Whitaker and Catherine Whitaker
    2. I found these tonight going thru some old documents etc, that I had. thought somebody on the list might be able to use them. If anyone has any information on this family, I would greatly appreciate hearing from them. PIONEER RESIDENT OF STORY COUNTY DIED IN DES MOINES Deacon J. Whitaker was born in Washington County, PA, June 22, 1842 and departed this life Nov 23, 194. he moved with his parents to Muskengdom county, Ohio in 1848 and in the fall of 1856 they came to Iowa; the family located at Saylorville whee they resided for about 18 months then they moved to Story County, where he grew to manhood. At the age of 19 he enlisted in the 2nd Iowa Battery and was mustered into service for the Civil war on Aug 8, 1861. He participated in all the engagements with his company, and was discharged from active service Aug 30, 1864, While carrying dispatches he was taken prisoner, and was held two months in Belle Island. On his return home from the war, he married Mrs. Amelia Pring Evans, July 1865. To this union were born four children: John W. of Mitchellville, ______ of Bonduarnt, and two daughters Nettie and Laura, who awaited his coming on the other shore. His wife died Feb 24, 1911 and he was again married on Feb 27, 1913 to Mrs. Sadie Webster. Since that time he has resided in Des Moines. He leaves besides his wife, two sons and one step-son to mourn their loss, 12 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two brothers, Samuel and Thomas of Maxwell, one sister, Mrs. Sarah Hoskins of Nevada, and a host of friends. He was a member of Kinsman post G. A. R. and has been a member of the Friends church in Des Moines for about a year, and died trusting in his Saviour. He was a kind father, loving companion, and a good neighbor and will be greatly missed as a kind and true friend. Funeral services were held at the residence, 1313 De Wolf Street, Des Moines, conducted by the pastor of the Friends church from the text 2nd Timothy 4:6, closing with the ritualistic service of the G. A. R. The body was then taken by auto hearse to Santiago, where services were again held by the pastor at that place, after which interment was made in the Santiago Cemetery. Many and beautiful floral tributes manifesting the love and respect of neighbors and friends. Seven automobiles were generously offered to carry relatives and friends on the long, sad journey to his last resting place, there to await the ressurection morn. +++++ CATHERINE WHITAKER daughter of Thomas and Harriett Whittaker, was born near Nevada, Iowa Jan 30, 1875 and departed this life December 15, 1917, aged 42 years 10 months and 15 days. On October 22, 1901, she was united in marriage to James Ayers to which union was born one daughter, Hazel. At an early age she was converted and united with the Summit United Evangelical church and there remained a member until the time of her death. For more than three years she had been a constant sufferer. At one time she underwent an operation in hopes of regaining her shattered health, but to no avail. For many years she has made her home with her sister, Mrs. O. G. Tichenor, but death claimed her while she was at the home of another sister, Mrs. Mary Tichenor. The tender care she has received in each of these homes is a tribute to our christian civilization. She leaves to mourn their loss her little daughter, Hazel, her aged father, Thomas Whittaker; one brother, Frank Whittaker of Nevada; four sisters, Mrs. Louise Carter of Maxwell, Iowa; Mesdames Mary and Hattie Tichenor of Colo and Mrs. Maggie Coxsworth of Nevada and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Summit United Evangelical church with Rev. W. C. McKinley officiating and the remains were laid at rest in the Summit cemetery.

    3. I first reported that my John Wesley Whitaker had married Pearl Langley...correct that to Langford possibly born Nov.20,1893. Her parents may have been Andrew Jackson Labgford 1863 and Margie Cooper 1869. This John Wesley's parents most likely were Jesse William Whitaker 1863 and Lucinda Mays 1863...These items were quoted to me out of a family Bible of Jeanette Whitaker widow of Harry Jackson Whitaker. As earlier reported Harry Jackson was one of 3 children of Pearl and John W.. Harry was born in Austin, Tx. Feb 29, 1920. There was another son Alvin and a daughter Pearl Marie or Marie Pearl. Still looking for any info. available. Thank you, B. Whitaker __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
