Thanks for the info. Will check the library and possibly they can make me a copy - for a nominal fee.
Hi Nancy, This is a line that I am also researching and descend from. I visited and took pictures, 2 months ago, of the graves of John & Thankful (nee Pierce) Whitaker at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Mason, Hillsborough Co, NH. This was a well taken care of cemetery in the middle of beautiful nowhere. :<) I went to the County library in Nashua but found no ancestor information there. I have not connected this line to the Haverhill or Rehoboth Whitakers either. I wish that I could. I'd get a lot of help on this from this list. This is the first I've heard of John Sr's father and possibly his wife's name. Where did you obtain this information? Part of my line is Direct Descendants of John Whitaker, Sr. 1 John Whitaker, Sr. 2 John Whitaker, Jr. b: Abt. 1744 in Shirley, Middlesex Co, MA d: Oct 1, 1829 in Mason, Hillsborough Co, NH +Thankful Pierce b: Jun 5, 1744 in Groton, Middlessex Co, MA m: Dec 23, 1766 in Groton, Middlessex Co, MA d: Sep 6, 1831 in Mason, Hillsborough Co, NH 3 John Whitaker b: Feb 12, 1770 in Groton, Middlessex Co, MA d: Nov 1, 1860 in Hartland, Windsor Co, VT +Dolly Fay b: 1773 in Groton, Middlessex Co, MA m: in Groton, Middlessex Co, MA d: Feb 21, 1850 in Hartland, Windsor Co, VT 4 Abner Newton Whitaker b: Abt. Unfortunately, there aren't any copies left to sell. I have borrowed my aunt's copy that she purchased several years ago. There has been discussion on the NCSURRY site about Hester Jackson printing another edition, but nothing has materialized yet. I'd suggest you check with the Surry County Genealogy Association, PO Box 997, Dobson, NC 27017. Thanks very much. Do you have any idea where one might get a copy of the book you mentioned. Will be happy to pay for a copy. Appreciate your info.
William WHITAKER (1750-1825) of Surry County, NC . . . . . as chronicled in Hester Jackson's book about him and his brother Jonathan I (1763-1819). Yep! My lines go back to the family twice. One side is through his William's son Edmund, then thru his son Abram (who also married his first cousin Lydia), then thru his daughter Sarah Elizabeth WHITAKER who married William Henry Harrison PATTERSON, my maternal great-great-grandather. The other line is from William's son Isaac, then thru his son Silas, then thru his son Bird Nathaniel, and then from his daughter Julila WHITAKER who married my maternal grandfather, Escar Floyd PATTERSON. Escar was the grandson of William Henry Harrison PATTERSON, so my grandmother, Julila, is the granddaughter of Sarah Elizabeth WHITAKER. :-) Bob Carter Greensboro, NC ----- Original Message ----- From: <MorrisLA1@aol.com> To: <WHITAKER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2001 2:39 PM Subject: Re: [WHITAKER] Death with WHITAKER ties in Surry County > Is your line descended from William Whitaker. > > > ==== WHITAKER Mailing List ==== > > > > ============================== > Create a FREE family website at MyFamily.com! > http://www.myfamily.com/banner.asp?ID=RWLIST2 >
Same as it is for all the other "roots" lists. Just insert the word "request" before the @roots.com and you're telling the command server what to do. To subscribe or unsubscribe, use this address: NCSURRY-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com BTW, all of rootsweb lists are like this. As long as you have the prefix correct (NCSURRY, NCSTOKES, etc), then it is followed by a "dash" then the word "request." AND. . . . you "unsubscribe" the same way. I am searching for information of James Whitaker, grocer. He was living in Chorlton Cum Hardy, Manchester or Bolton I think, as events occured for my Great Grandmother and her brothers and sisters in these places. I also need some information on his wife and children. What his wifes name is and when and where she was born, when she died; the first and middle names of his two daughters, Mrs Rigby and Mrs Chadwick d 23 Oct 1919 and their birth dates and where they were born; also the middle names of his two sons John and Richard and their birth and death dates and where they were born. I also need the names of Mrs Rigby's and John's children and their birth dates and where they were born. I have the name of Mrs Chadwick's son Ernest who is married and lives in Bolton and I have the names of Richard's two son's; James lives in Bolton and William Shaw lives in Leeds. I also need their birth dates and where they were born. To the best of my knowledge none of the Whitakers of my family moved to the United States prior to 1887. Then only my great grandmother Mary Elizabeth (Whitaker) Sellen b 28 Nov 1854 and her two children arrived in the USA in 1887 and my Grandfather was born in 27 Jan 1888 in New York City. Looking for information on John and Wade WHITAKER of Surry County, NC (Pilot Mountain). They are the brothers of my grandmother Julila Whitaker PATTERSON. Wade WHITAKER would have been born in the late 1890s or early 1900s and moved to Montana. He had a son named Evan "Bucky" WHITAKER and Evan supposedly moved to Portland, Oregon. I am seeking info regarding William Whitaker, born in possibly Missouri. and died in 1955 in Golden Gate, Illinois. He married first Wife unknown name and date. They had several children before she died in a Missouri Flu? epidemic. He married Eva Bingham, my great grandmother, on 7/21/1921 in Carter County Missouri. They had several children together. Eva Bingham died 11/12/1979, and is buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetary in Hunter, MO. All together, William Whitaker had 8 children with his two wives, but I am not sure which child goes with which wife, other that my grandmother, Virginia Marie Whitaker, born 6/12/1922 in Hunter, MO. Her mother was Eva Bingham. I have no parent or sibling info for William Whitaker. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you and have a great day! Gayle
Marie, Thanks for the URL, I will certainly visit the site. Rick in Thailand
Good evening to the WHITAKER list members, While working with another individual on ORDWAY and CORLISS lines, we came upon a HULDAH CORLISS who married ABRAHAM WHITAKER as her second husband December 27, 1704 in Haverhill, MA. (Haverhill VR 2:196, 330). We show that the ABRAHAM that married HULDAH was a son of ABRAHAM and SARAH (BEANE) WHITAKER, born May 20, 1683 at Haverhill (1:313). Since HULDAH was born November 18, 1661 at Haverhill (1:77), the age difference doesn't really make sense. We believe ABRAHAM was the son of ABRAHAM and ELIZABETH (SIMMONS) WHITAKER born February 27, 1656 at Haverhill (1:313). If anyone on the list has any information they are willing to share, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Rick in Thailand
Good morning, Walter: In March of this year, I received a copy of the Fifth Generation page of Abraham Whitaker ofHaverhill, Mass. This was Abraham-3 of Abraham-4, Jonathan-3,Abraham -2, Abraham-1. The preparer of the page is Nancy Borman, whose full address is: http:// www.uftree.com/UFT/webPages/NancyBorman/WHITAKE/d0/i0003306.htm. Thought perhaps you might glean the info you seek from her. She could not help me although I was looking for a Clark H. Whitaker and this Abraham and Betsy White had a son, Clark, My Clark m. Catherine (?) of Bradford Co., PA, he from VT. Good luck!
