No, Mary, I do not. Only that he was born in Clarksville, Montgomery Cty. TN. I was hoping that someone might show him as a sibling to their ancestor in that city during that time frame. I have just begun my Whitaker research. I am looking for a William B. Whitaker, born around 1845, Clarksville, Montgomery Cty, TN. He married Annis Lauretta Penny in 1871 in Madison, Co., IL. Children of this marriage include: Harry Wilson Whitaker (1872-1926); Emma Gertrude Whitaker (1874-1886); Walter Edwards Whitaker (1881-1942); and Ralph McKeague Whitaker (1888-1939). Walter is my ancestor. He and his wife Clara Belle Hatfield lived in St. Louis, MO about 1900 to 1915. Do any of you have Whitakers in Tennessee, who probably fought in the Civil War and later moved west into Illinois? Would like to hear from you. Thank you, PJohnson
Try the location where she lived from the Census records. Check the neighbors around. Unless she was a traveling lady she did not go too far from home. We have found several this way.
Try checking an living relatives. Try checking close relatives' death notices, birth certificates, SSrecords. Try looking at Census records for your ggrandmother's time period and any neighbors or relatives close by. Try looking for any wills, land records. Hope this helps.
not unless the mother told them who it was! Joshua is my great-great-great-great-grandfather. He lived in PA, moved to Maryland and then to Surry County NC. My great-great-great grandfather Abraham was his son and his son William was my great-great-grandfather. William's daughter Hannie was my great-grandmother who was born in Rutherford County, NC on Nov. 14, 1874 and died of typhoid fever on July 23, 1909. Hannie had all six of her children out of wedlock. How do I go about finding out who got her pregnant with her first child Fred Caughtus who is my grandfather? Thank you very much. Diane at mandym@shelby.net
My grandfather Fred Caughtus was born Nov. 6, 1890 to Miss Hannie Whitaker who is my great-grandmother. I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to go about getting information in trying to find out who my great-grandfather was. Knowing 3 of my great-grandfathers and not him is about to drive me to my wits' end. I know I shouldn't give up and due to my Irish ancestry, I'm not. Any information anybody could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Diane at mandym@shelby.net
Does anyone on the list have any knowledge of James Whitaker of Bedwin Magna, Wiltshire, England who married in 1690 Mary Martin b. Bedwin Magna, Wiltshire England, daughter of Thomas Martin and Margery who married in 1675 in England and arrived in Chester Co.,Pennsylvania in 1685 on the Unicorne, Thomas Cooper master? It appears that they may have been Quakers. A James Whitaker came to Chester Co. PA In 1783 on the ship Endeavor as servant to the Nickson (Nixon) family. I am interested in any Wiltshire Whitaker families, since my Jonathan Whitaker b. 1690 family was said to have been from Wiltshire. Also, I have found my Eliphalet Whitaker b. 1732 listed as an administration for a Robert Poston in 1784 in Chester Co., PA. Does anyone know of a Whitaker-Poston connection? Thanks, Joan Whitaker Landrum
Is your NC Whitaker, William. If so, does he have brothers in MD, Robert, Samuel, Thomas, etc. I think Robert is one of the brothers. Louann
Hi: I have no teenagers that are interested at this time. However, I am a Whitaker (VA, NC, SC) and I also have bunches of info. I hope your book works for the young ones. I have always been interested in my roots. I have been invited to my neighborhood elementary school, during the sojourn on American History, to help youngsters do a little genealogy. It was great fun and the reaction was wonderful. Kids who had no contact with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins - it was tremendous. Even for the foreign students it worked very nicely. Have a grand New Year and loads of luck with your new book. HLBY (C)
I don't have a current teen or twenty-something, but I thought you would be interested in how I got started as a teen, as it can be a message for teachers. My great grandmother had researched my mother's side and had written three books. My father's side, however, was not researched and was an unknown. In the eleventh grade, my history teacher has us do a family tree. My mother suggested I speak to my grandmother to fill in that side, rather than transcribe the other side. I contacted my grandmother, who lived in another state. No one in the family had ever shown interest, so she happily sent me photographs and everything she knew. When she passed away, I was the only one who had any information. My father and I have since used her valuable information as a starting point to develop a meaningful family history to pass on to my children. If it had not been for my history teacher, this would not have happened. Hi all-- I am a WHITAKER descendant and a book author and I'm wondering if anyone on this list can help me with my latest book. I'm under contract with Groliers, Inc., to write a book about internet genealogy for teens. If you know any young people who have done any family history research on the internet, I'd like to include their stories in my book. I'd could also use people in their 20's who began their research in their teens. Please have anyone interested in doing this contact me by email at sjnanner@compuserve.com if they'd like to share their genealogy research stories with other teens. I won't use last names of minors unless I have the permission of their parents. Thanks so much for your help. Nancy Shepherdson
