My Whitaker's did come from South Carolina...I hope they are distant "Brown cousins" since I was a Whitaker and married a Brown! I do not know where you are located, but there are Browns that are also distant cousins of the Whitakers from SC. Thanks for your info.
Thank you for your response. That would definately be another Robert Whitaker- possibly a cousin. You mentioned Floyd county--what state would that be in? The Whitaker family I am researching settled in Georgia by the mid 1800's and I know there is a Floyd county in Georgia. Thanks for responding. The Robert James Whitaker I am trying to research was from North Carolina. He was born about 1813, and was married November 10, 1835 to Frances Teal (born about 1819. They had seven children, SV, MJ, AC L, Elizabeth, JF, and MM. The family eventually moved to Georgia. The only thing I really know is the family were long standing Methodist. A friend doing on-line research found this information that I though might be helpful to some other Whiteaker researchers. It was taken from the Winston County, Alabama 1867 Voting Registration and Loyalty Oaths Register: 31st Registration District, Precinct No. 4 It apparently is a rare listing, for it contains: Name, Date of Birth, Place of Birth. (Winston County was one of the few counties in Alabama which recorded birthdays and place of birth as a part of the Loyalty Oaths) Whiteker [Whiteaker?], John T., 5 Oct 1820, Anderson District, South Carolina Hope this helps someone. Would also love to hear from folks who might have some information on Henderson Whitacre, b. 1804, Indiana. Married, Mary A BEARD, Dubois County, Indiana, 1840; had two children, John Perry and Minerva, and moved to Perry County, Missouri about 1845, where he remarried, as a widower, Martha Anna Phillips, in 1854. The family got an original land patent for a homestead in Perry County, MO in 1857 in the name of Henderson Whiteaker. Thanks, Buddy Whiteaker, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. <whitbud@arkansas.net> Board of Registration: A.J. Ingle, James Ellis, Rily Tyry In Winston County, all registrants were listed as "in state" twelve months and "in county" three months. Unless otherwise stated, all listed were white. Name, Date of Birth, Place of Birth (Winston County was one of the few counties in Alabama which recorded birthdays and place of birth as a part of the Loyalty Oaths)
HI Whitaker cousins wherever you are, I have made an attachment of my Whitaker relatives who started in Maryland, then on to Pa., Virginia(which is now Ky.),then on to Ind.(mine ended up in Margan Co. Ind), Ill,. I have them from 1700 to late 1850's. Would be happy to send it to whoever could use it. I also have a few pictures. Jean Fancy P.S. it is a large attachment because families had many children in those days. Need a little more info than this - there are many Robert J. Whitaker's. Need a time place and a location if possible and father and mother - if you know and their location.
Where?
I would appreciate any info on Robert J Whitaker married to Frances Teal.
We added a couple more items this morning, including an interesting link in his military section. Also made some corrections on sources. Have added a Researcher page for everyone who is researching or tracking Judge John Whiteaker. Mary
We have made a couple minor changes, plus added a few things to John Whiteaker's homepage at http://www.usgw.org/Saban_Thompson/WhitakerJohn1795.htm Mary and Don Saban Wyoming msaban@wyoming.com
Dear Mary, I have now been able to see your WHITAKER information. What a nice listing. However, it does not seem to connect with my WHITAKERs at all. My Elder John WHITAKER (often called Peg-Leg), was born ca 1870 in Rowan County, NC., married Martha (Willcoxson) Wilson in Wilkes Co., TN and died in Lincoln Co, TN. His son William (my ancestor) was b ca 1783 in either Wilkes Co., NC or perhaps in Woodford Co., KY. He m. Elizabeth Hammond probably in KY ca 1805. He died ca 1836-1838 in Nacogdoches County, TX and "they" say is buried in the Old North Church Cemetery on the edge of Nacogdoches (the town), TX. I do not find any branch of our WHITAKER family in any state other than NC, TN, KY and TX and so far none of the records show any spelling other than WHITAKER in any generation - forward or backward. Sorry, I know this probably will not help you at all. However, I have received an e-mail from Buddy WHITeAKER whose information may hit closer to yours since it does not seem to click with mine. In case you have not seen his message, a copy of it follows. I sent him basically the same information as is above. Good luck with your research. I know from experience how hard they are to separate and put back together again. Billie Beth .......................... Buddy Whiteaker wrote: > > Hi, Billie Beth. My name is Buddy Whiteaker.
