Whitacre eventually changed to Whittaker or Whitaker. Mine are spelled with two T's and are definitely English. Probably the German people you speak of had an English ancestor in a predominately german family. Yep! Several spellings. . . Whiteacre, Whiteacrea, Whiteaker, Whitaker, Whittaker, Whittacre, etc. The most common is Whitaker. Jetta, You mentioned that you were connected to Cass Co., TX Whitakers - who were they. Do you have a listing of your Whitaker line, that I could view. Sallie
P.S. Even in Chicago, New York and Oklahoma. C
Jetta: You are right. However some of the Whitakers did go to Georgia and that may be the distant connection. There were and are some many Whitaker kin folks - all over the United States that are kin to the ones that I mentioned. Rhode Island, Baltimore, Virginia, La. Ark., NC, SC, Ga, TX, Az and bigtime in California. Cookey
Cookey and Sallie, After reading your info posted today, I think we have to different Whitaker families I have no connection to any of the names you listed. My Whitakers came to East TX from GA and married into the John Crow family and Leftwich lines which had both also come from GA. Thanks for the responses. Jetta in OK
Jetta: I am also kin to the Cass Co., Bowie Co. Whitakers. Willis Whitaker's father is one of my ancestors. Cookey Bradford Young.
Sallie: You are right, Bell C. is part of the picture. What she has old I have and what she has otherwise she received from my cousin Elinor in SC. You are also right about Norman. I get it all so mixed up sometime if I am not looking at the print. There are so many all around. You know that is how I found most of the Whitakers in Texas because they were buried in an old cemetary with the Whitakers, Haywoods, Dunlaps, and Epps. I know that they had to be from SC bunch because up until about 42 years ago the same names were still in Sumter, SC and my grandfather JW Bradford, was still fishing with his buddies of these names. They seem to move around together - either as cousins - friends or finally marrieds. I have a Haywood cousin - in Aiken, SC, I believe, will have to look her up again as I have not heard from her in a long time. I will see what I have and try to get in touch with her and see if she has anymore info. There is also a new book out about the Wiggins family written by another cousin and I will get in touch with her - she is writing another book and maybe this time it has Haywoods in it. Will check and see. Let me hear from you - what you think about this info and if there is anything else I can do for you. Good to be in touch again. Cookey
Jetta, From what I'm able to figure out, Frank Whitaker was: Francis "Frank" Hunter Whitaker, b. Oct. 30, 1898, married Jun 2, 1922 in Annapolis, MD, May Aurelia Speer, b. Jun 20, 1898, d. Jun 22, 1985 in Wayne, PA. "Frank" Whitaker & May Speer had children: Francis H. Whitaker Jr., born May 18, 1923 in Houston, TX and married Marilyn C. Wooley, born Jul 10, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY. They had child: Francis H. Whitaker III, born Apr 23, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY, who married Virginia Rose Kehoe, born Feb 14, 1948. I think there were additional children born to Frank H. Whitaker Jr., and III, that I have not listed. "Frank" Whitaker of 1898, was the son of : Harrison Moores Whitaker, b. 1852 Jefferson, Bowie Co., TX, d. 1922 Beaumont, Jefferson Co., TX, & his 2nd wife, Mary Eleanor O'Rouke born May 15, 1876, died 1957 Beaumont, TX. Harrison Moores Whitaker, was son of Willis Whitaker and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Harrison Moores, who were married Jul 27, 1844. Harrison Moores Whitaker's sister was my g-grandmother, Sarah Moores Whitaker, born Dec 10, 1847, died Oct 23, 1923, who married Dec 12, 1866, Robert Jones Haywood I, born Apr 17, 1842, died Jul 5, 1919. Hi Cookey, There's a guy that lives in Houston - Dudgeon Walker, and he does not do the computer thing, but, we have been in touch. He called me yesterday and he asked about Frank Whitaker, and said that Frank Whitaker was assigned to reconstruct - something - in regards to Pearl Harbor. I didn't quite understand all of what he said, but, was trying to find some of the descendants, since I do the genealogy thing on the computer. This distant relative - Dudgeon Walker, is I think, 73 years old, roughly, and, has information on my Haywood family, that is also connected to the Whitaker family. If I have Mr. Walker's info figured right, he is a descendant of Elise Haywood, sister of my Robert Jones Haywood II. Elise was born Dec 9, 1868 in Jefferson, TX, died Nov 20, 1959 in Houston, and is buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont, TX. She married Weyman Burwell Dunlap Sr., and they lived in Beaumont, TX. Elise Haywood & Weyman Dunlap, had a daughter named Nannie Haywood Dunlap, b. Aug 12, 1899 in Beaumont, TX, who married Joseph Dudgeon Walker Sr. I'm still new to this branch of my Haywood-Whitaker family, but I think I have that figured right. One thing in particular that has been nice is that Dudgeon Walker had a tin type of my g-grandfather, Robert Jones Haywood I, in his Civil War uniform, and he sent me a copy of that. Quite a nice addition to my family history. Cookey, I'm a bit confused by your 2nd email, you say that NOrman Whitaker lives in Cass Co., TX - I thought he lived in Prescott, AR, but, I surely could be wrong. I would love to see a recent photo of some of Frank Whitaker's family. Is the African American that you speak of, Bell Cheatham? Should I check with her - would she have info on Frank Whitaker? Cookey, I am also related to some of the Cass Co. TX Whitakers? My Whitakers were in and around the Hughes Springs and Linden area?? Any connection to yours?? Jetta in OK
Sallie, I am connected to the Cass Co., TX Whitakers but I dont have a Francis"Frank" in my information. How was he connected?? Jetta in OK
P.S. I believe that I have a recent picture of some of Frank's family. Norman Whitaker lives (if he is not now deceased) in Cass County. Will check this out if you are interested. C
Sally: The group in Cass County belongs to me (Cookey Young). I do have some info on them. They were the children of Willis Whitaker, Jr. Would you like for me to copy some of the info. I have a friend (African American) whose mother still lives on the property that Willis Whitaker left to her slave ancestor. The plantation house were in Texas and Arkansas. The properties have been placked and so have the cemetaries (Black & White). Looking forward to hearing from you. Cookey
Seeking information on "Frank" Whitaker and his descendants. I understand he was in the military, and was assigned to project concerning Pearl Harbor. He was connected to the Bowie and Cass County, TX Whitaker family. Thanks, Sallie
My great-great-great-grandfather Abraham Whitaker was born in Surry County NC either in 1772 or 1775 and I was wondering if anybody knew or had any information on this side of the Whitakers . Diane at mandym@shelby.net
