Frann: I gathered from the document that Mack is the grandson of Marcus Boone Whitaker who's brother John Married Elizabeth Love. I know this is confusing because Because Marcus Boone Whitaker's father Mark also had a brother named John who is my 5th great grandfather. W. Kirby Whitaker stated that her grandfather's father was John who was the brother of Mack's grandfather, Mark. W. K. also stated Mack's sister, Lynne, married R. L. Motlow (Jack Daniel's nephew). With further research I have discovered that this couple was indeed Margaret Lynne Whitaker who married Robert Lee Motlow in 1910 in Lincoln Co., TN. You see it is highly unlikely, if not impossible for Margaret Lynne Whitaker's grandparents to be Mark Whitaker and Katie Boone if she was to marry R. L. Motlow in 1910 unless she was VERY much older than he (b. 1864). Now we have Mack Whitaker and Margaret Lynne Whitaker as siblings but who are their parents? Because we can assume a paternal link here that passed on the name I have determined that Mack Whitaker and Margaret Lynne Whitaker's father could possibly be one of the following. . . Charley Lafayette Whitaker b. July 04, 1834 John Franklin Whitaker William Boone Whitaker b. January 10, 1840 . . . but I have several other possible siblings of the above mentioned who I only have lister as initials without even a sex being known. Frann: Where are these Whitaker's located? I also have a Whitaker/Whittaker who married a Love (in Illinois). One is William's birthplace in NJ; most if not all of the NJ Whitakers descend from my immigrant ancestor, Richard Whitaker, who arrived in 1670. The other is that his next door neighbor is his apparent brother (or other relative) Ambrose. I believe in the relationship because he is two years older and also born in NJ. Next door is a possible brother, William WHITAKER, age 43, also born NJ. These families interest me for two reasons: (1) I think that most if not all of the early Whitakers from southwest NJ are descended from Richard Whitaker, my immigrant ancestor who arrived in 1670; (2) Ambrose is an important name in my line, and though I haven't yet connected him into my line, I think he is a fit somewhere. I descend from William Whitaker who died in 1832 in Orange Co., NC. His wife was Lucy. They had a son William who married Nancy. William and Nancy had a daughter, Elizabeth Jane Whitaker b.7/22/1827 in NC, m.10/14/1845, d.5/12/1885 in Kaufman TX. Elizabeth married James F. Horn. Her mother may have remarried to a Smith. I have a document entitled: 'MY GRANDPARENTS, THEIR DESCENDANTS AND FORBEARS' by W. Kirby Whitaker, 1961. I this document W. Kirby Whitaker describes his 'grandfather's father's parents' as being Mark Whitaker and Katie Boone. He also states that 'Cousin Mack is a grandson of Mark who was a brother of my grandfather's father, John'. This makes 'Mack' the grandson of Marcus Boone Whitaker and Rosanna Rutledge. . . but which child of this couple is the father of 'Mack'? This makes W. Kirby Whitaker the great grandson of John Whitaker and Elizabeth Love. . . but which child of this couple is the grandfather of W. Kirby Whitaker. W. Kirby Whitaker also mentions that Mack's sister is Mrs. Lynne Motlow. Could this be Margaret Lynne Whitaker who married Robert Lee Motlow in 1910 in Lincoln Co., Tennessee? I'm also searching for any other links between the Whitaker and Motlow families from Lincoln Co., TN. I find records of Motlows marrying Whitakers and Motlows marrying Daniels and Whitakers marrying Tolleys and Tolleys marrying Daniels. But it is all fragmented. Old family letters indicate the Whitaker family related to Jack Daniel, the wiskey distiller. Does anyone have any info on Larkin Whitaker and Bettie Daniel who were married on 02 Jan 1902 in Lincoln County, TN. Hello, Trying once again for anyone that might be new or have new information out there......here is where I am stuck on my WHITAKER lines: John Whitaker b. possibly in KY, unknown d. 1838 Montgomery County, IN m. 20-Jan-1817 Cumberland County, KY to: Catharine WRIGHT b. ca. 1798 NC d. possibly in Keokuk, Iowa aft. 1863 John and his wife moved from Cumberland County, KY to Montgomery County, IN (Union Twp.) where they purchased 40 acres of land on June 3, 1835. John Whitaker was a bell maker according to family lore. They had 11 children - not in order of birth Levi Anna Esau Isaac (my line) John Catherine William Luther Rachel Margaret Noah Except for Levi and Ann (John and Esau were dead), the family moved first to IL and then to IA in the 1850's. During the Civil War, William and Noah both fought for the Union army, Noah died of measles in Keokuk, IA on 05-Jan-1862. William was medicaly discharged for Retinitis 23-Dec-1863. Because Noah was the sole supporter of Catharine, Catharine received a mother's pension of $8.00 per month. Is anyone missing my John Whitaker from their family that may have lived in or near Cumberland County, KY? I'm trying to compile the best sources of information on Marcus Whitaker, son of William Whitaker and Elizabeth Carleton. It seems there were two Marcus Whitaker's of the same age in Rowan Co., NC in the mid 1700s. Some sources give Marcus' wife as Tabitha while others give it as Anne.
