Searching for the parents of WILLIAM TUCKER b. Jasper Co., Ga 1783 married 1800 to DELANIA A. LINDSAY b. Jasper Co., Ga. In the book "A History of Rockdale County" it states that they moved to Rockdale County from Jasper County in the early 1800's and they were the parents of five sons; THOMAS, MADISON (my G Grandfather), WARREN, GREEN and WILLIAM. There is no information as from where they came. Do any of you have these boys parents hanging out in your family tree? Thanks for your time. What is "An Illustrated History of Los Angeles County"? What does it contain? Is it available electronically or just hardcopy? Could someone look to see if there are any references to these Los Angeles locals of the past: - George Washington WHITACRE - Larinda or Winnie SCOTT WHITACRE - Lucinda TOMSON SCOTT - Joseph Patrick SCOTT or Patrick Joseph SCOTT Thanks very much! Hello Cathy, I don't have much information to offer, but sometimes one little clue will help. On the old Whitaker Family Tree Chart there is a Harmon Whitaker birth date unknown He was the son of Byron Whitaker b. 20 May 1856 and Anna South (Abraham, Stephen, Jonathan, Jonathan, Jr., Jonathan Whitaker, I.) Byron's father was Abraham Whitaker b. 13 November 1830 who married Louisa Williams and Sally South. He lived in Newtonville, Ohio and had seven children know to me. Since the name Harmon is unusual, I thought that perhaps this was a family name and that maybe one of Byron's brothers also had a Harmon. Abraham;s children known to me were Nettie, Perry, Byron, Floyd, Earl, and Vernon Whitaker. I hope this helps. The marriage was 1841. Martha Whitaker was born 1823 in GA. Phyllis
Does anyone know about Martha Whitaker who married Meredith Thrower 18 March 1941 in Henry Co., GA. She is probably the daughter of Burton Whitaker, since he is the only Whitaker old enough to be her father in Henry County. Does anyone know about Burton Whitaker born 1797 in N.C.? Thanks, Phyllis
Hello Gail, There are a number of us out here on the Whitaker list, but it is not very active. (Much less so than any of the others I am on). I have Whitakers who came to Texas also, but mine came from Pickens Co. Alabama. This line was from Georgia and originally came from Somerset Co., New Jersey. There are quite a few James Whitaker's who descended from this New Jersey line and several were in Ohio. Stay on the list and keep trying on your line. There may be someone out there who will recognize it.j Good luck, Joan Whitaker Landrum
Gail, I don't have any information on your line of Whitaker's...just wanted you to know that you message got out here. There are many people researching the Whitaker name in the South, never give up and repost every so often in case someone new signs on and can connect to your names. Desperately seeking Harmon WHITACRE! My great-great-grandfather was Harmon WHITACRE b. abt 1827 perhaps in Ohio. He managed to avoid every census I can get my hands on! He was in Illinois in 1852 when my great-grandfather Cyrus Deming (C.D.) WHITACRE was born. His wife was Mary DEMING according to Cyrus's death certificate. Have seen other trees with Harmon WHITACRE marrying Mary SIMER. ANY one out there who can help clear up this muddy picture for me???? Most grateful, Cathy. --------------------------------------------- Cathy (Whitacre) Reisinger http://www.jps.net/creising in Corona, CA [email protected] ---------------------------------------------
Hello, I am new to this list. I haven't received anything from the list yet so am sending this to see if it gets posted back to me as well as to try for information. I am looking for anything on James Martin Whitaker (my g-grandfather). I think he was born in 1848 in NC. He married Sarah Ann Baker who I think was born in MO in 1850. I think they were married in MO. possibly in Wright Co., probably about 1868-69 as their first child (of 6) was born in 1870. He was Robert Columbus Whitaker. The youngest, John Harrison Whitaker, born in 1886 was my grandfather. The family at some point moved to Texas. I would love to get more info. on the family. Gail Willett [email protected]
Hello- Is anyone out there researching Benjamin Whitaker of Leeds and vicinity, a clothier in the early 1800s?? Donna Dreher Lees [email protected] Chico, CA, USA

Hi, I just found out that my great3 grandfather was Benjamin Whitaker, a clothier and woollen manufacturer in Leeds and vicinity in the early- to mid-1800s. My guess is that he was born about 1790-95. I know of one child: Maria Whitaker, b. 1815-20, in Wortley (near Leeds), YKS in 1815-1820. She married Joseph Greaves. Is anyone else researching these folks?? Donna Dreher Lees [email protected] Chico, CA, USA
I am not sure what area Solomon Whitaker or Andrew Gray was from. All that I know is that Solomon died in Henderson Co. NC I believe that Solomon's great grandfater, Joshua came to NC from PA. Lisa
Thank you to everyone who replied to me!!! I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one here! :-) First of all, let me say that I am totally new to this genealogy stuff, so I don't know a lot of the terminology. I am looking for info. on several different Whitakers, but I will start by posting this one. Solomon Whitaker b. April 27, 1822 s/o Joshua Whitaker. Solomon m. Elmina or Elmira Gray b. Oct 9, 1854 d/o Andrew Gray. What I need is information on Andrew Gray. I have nothing at all on him. Can anyone help me with this one? Lisa
Hello!! I just subscribed to this list 5 days ago and I have recieved no mail at all from the list. Could someone tell me if there is a problem? I got a message saying that I was subscribed, but nothing else. Lisa [email protected]
Hello, Does anyone have a William Whitaker that would have had a son named John born late 1700's possibly in KY? Or a William Whitaker that may have lived around Cumberland County, KY in the very early 1800's? I notice my John Whitakers family seems to have passed the name William around quite a bit, though that maybe his father may have been named William. My John Whitaker also named sons Isaac and Levi if anyone has any ideas what family may have had all those names? Thanks, Lynn
I'm trying to find out what happened to the many siblings that my g-grandfather, Robert Whittaker, had. First, the spelling of the surname was changed for Robert when he came to the U.S. His family is WHITAKER originally (one T). ========= James Whitaker m. Mary Pinder 5/14/1833 and they had 11 children, all born in Dorrington, Lincolnshire, England. Son #10, Robert (b. 5/1852, Dorrington, Lincolnshire, Eng.) m. Carrie Elizabeth Love in DeKalb County, ILL. Looking for what happened to the other 9 children (one died as child). John b. 1836, James b. 1838, Mary b.1842, Charles b. 1844, William b. 1846, George b. 1848, Thomas b. 1850, Matthew b. 1853. Did any come to the U.S. besides Robert? ========== Progress is slow but I've managed to find out about Robert's family pretty well. Dates and places at least, not alot of personal details yet. But I figure with all those siblings, a couple more had to have come to the U.S. I do know that in Oct. 1912 when Robert died James, Charles, William, Matthew and Mary were still alive but the obituary did not say where. If anyone recognizes a name and date, please let me know.
