    3. Does anyone on this list live near Melrose, MA? Have you ever heard of a Wyoming Cemetery? I have found out that some of my husband's relatives are buried there and would like to visit the cemetery and see the stones. What I'm wondering is...is the cemetery huge? Or just a small old cemetery? It shows on my computer map so it could just be historical or very large. I'm trying to decide if a weekend trip will do it or I'll need more time. If anyone can give me some sort of information on this cemetery, please contact me. 1. Searching for KY Whitakers
    2. I have just begun researching my husband's side of the family. This is all I know: His Great-grandparent's names are Almander Whitaker and Ora (Banks) Whitaker. He was from KY and she was a Cherokee Indian. After they were married, probably shortly before 1920, they moved to Missouri and possibly Texas before settling in Hazard, KY. They had at least one child: Clarance Leonard Whitaker born 2-15-20. He married Juanita Gill born 3-11-22. They probably married in 1940. Their children include Brenda Joyce (Whitaker) Smith b. 4-29-41 Donald Ray Whitaker b. 12-8-42 (my father-in-law) William Adron Whitaker b. 11-18-? Carol Ann (Whitaker) Kirby b. 7-11-48 I would appreciate any further information that anyone is willing to share. 3. Hello Sara, I have Ephraim Seward Whitaker's chart made about 1900. It is not however the Rehoboth line, but the line of Jonathan Whitaker b.c. 1690 who went from Massachusetts, to Long Island to Somerset Co. N.J. If I can be of any help please let me know. I would be interested in the correspondence between Ephraim Seward Whitaker and your great uncle. Ephraim Seward Whitaker believed that Jonathan Whitaker was descended from John Whitaker of Watertown Mass, but could not find connecting lines. A descendant, Oscar Vorhees said that Jonathan was born in Wiltshire, England, but we have never been able to find proof of this. Joan Whitaker Landrum -----Original Message----- From: Kenneth L. 3. Subject: [TN] Outstanding new TN book available! Date: Mon, 15 Jun 1998 12:16:52 -0400 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Those of you who don't belong to a TN gene or hist society may not have received this mailing, so I wanted to share it: The Tennessee Historical Society has announced pre-publication orders for _The_Tennessee_Encyclopedia_of_History_&_Culture_ -- due to be off the press July 13. The book will contain 1,000 pages, over 1500 articles, 29 major essays, 500 authors, 150 maps and illustrations, extensive cross-referencing, bibliographical information, and a detailed index. Carroll Van West, noted historian and author, is the Editor-in-Chief. It is being printed by Rutledge Hill Press in Nashville. Cost is $49.95 plus $10 to cover tax, postage, and handling for Tennessee. Those having it shipped out of Tennessee should add $6 instead of $10. Note that this is for US or APO/FPO addresses. Foreign orders need to be arranged with THS (see below). They accept check, MC, and Visa. Address: Tennessee Historical Society, War Memorial Building, Nashville, TN 37243-0084. Phone is 615-741-8934. Fax is 615-741-8937 for credit card orders. This is a secure fax machine. E-mail information requests or credit card orders can be sent to THS at this address: <[email protected]> On e-mail or fax orders, be sure to include the full account number, your name as it appears on the card, your billing address for the card, and your expiration date. THS won't be able to honor orders direct to them after August 15. This is a limited press run of 13,000. There will be a book-signing on August 6 in Nashville. Details will be sent to those who order copies from THS before that date. Just so there's no confusion about commercialism, I have no financial interest in this publication. I will purchase a copy, though! LISTOWNERS: Please forward this to all the lists you think are appropriate! Thanks!

However, I would suggest that you check the Vermont Vital Records Index that is available on microfilm at you local Family History Center (i.e. the Mormon Church). These records are indexed by surname so you might have to check all variations of the surnames that you are interested in. Wyn Jonas

    3. Hi Priscilla and fellow WHITAKER Researchers: I was very excited to see your listing on Rootsweb today. Here is the information I have on my paternal 2nd great grand uncle Lewis WHITAKER who was born Abt. 1838 in Coshocton County Ohio (Source: 1850 Census for Bedford, Coshocton County Ohio), and d. on March 7, 1890. An obituary was obtained from Deaths: Coshocton County Ohio 1867-1909 which is an obituary index for that period. This index was compiled by Mrs. Hilda Grace McPherson in 1976. This obituary lists a Lewis WHITAKER as having died on March 7, 1890. A copy of the County Death Record for Coshocton County, Ohio lists a Lewis Whitaker as having died as a result of "suicide while insane." This Lewis Whitaker's place of birth is listed as Bedford Township, Coshocton County Ohio, and his age as 51. Lewis WHITAKER is the fourth son of Rubin Barker WHITAKER (Sr.) b. abt. 1800 in New Jersey. (Source: 1850 Census for Bedford, Coshocton County Ohio), and d. April 11, 1868 in Jefferson Township, Coshocton County, Ohio (Source: Historical Collections of Coshocton County Ohio: A Complete Panorama of the County, From the Time of the Earliest Known Occupants of the Territory Unto the Present Time. By William E. Hunt; Chapter 23, p. 255: "Reuben B. Rubin Barker Whitaker (Jr.) is my paternal 2nd great grand father, and would appreciate any information you may have on this line. I have been at a dead end with Rubin B.
