Hello List, My most wanted is Robert Whitaker, born about 1772. He turned up in Nottinghamshire in 1796 when he wed Ann Reppen at Nuthall. Best wishes, Ann
This is my other hard to find Whitaker problem. These two were my grandparents. John is in the 1900 TX census in McLennen Co. TX living with his older brother Robert Columbus. John and Myrtle's first child, Myrtle Ann, was born in 1905 so I imagine they were married around 1903-05. My father, Neely Vines, was born in 1908 in Comanche Co. TX and all of their other 8 children were also born in TX. But when I looked at the 1910 TX Soundex I could not find them. This is very puzzling since I am as certain as I can be that they never lived anywhere else until the 1940's. Does anyone think they may have a connection, or any suggestions on how to pursue this? My Whitaker/Whittaker family is listed at the following: http://www.geocities.com/heartland/prairie/5868 Please visit and see if a name connects. Most of my research at the moment has left the U.S. and is in England (Lincs and Notts counties). My ggrandfather had 9 brothers and 1 sister. As far as I can tell, he was the only one to come to the states (he came in 1872). Check out the site and see if your ancestors were one of his siblings! Researching: WEST, WHITAKER, LOWERY, McCOMAS & HAYS It looks like we have a roll call going on the WHITAKER list, that's great. Here is what I have, I hope someone out there can be of help. Ralp The following is a summary of the information I have on the WEST, WHITAKER, McCOMAS and HAYS families I am researching. I am looking for information on the ancestors of my GGG/GF Joseph WEST. In the WEST line I have good Information back to my GGG/GF Joseph West Sr. B. 1757, location unknown D. 1841 Allegheny Co., PA. His second wife Catherine WHITAKER is my GGG/GM. His first wife was Mary (Lowery) Hay (daughter of Colonel Alexander LOWERY and Mary WATERS of Lancaster Co., PA).I have several references in histories listing Joseph's father as Edward WEST who moved to Washington Co. PA (near present day Pittsburgh) from Loudoun Co. VA. The histories give no other information on Edward. I do have a DAR application listing an Edward WEST who served in the Revolutionary War. The application lists Edward as serving in the Cumberland Co., PA militia. He was born in Loudoun Co. VA June 16, 1729, married Sept. 6 1769 to Elizabeth McCOMIS, he died in Washington Co., PA June 14, 1812 (Elizabeth may be his 2nd or later wife). The application listed the following sons of Edward, (1) Edward, (2) Jonathan b. May 8, 1776, married Frances Nixon, and (3) Thomas. Joseph was not listed on the application as a son of Edward. In the WHITAKER line the information is well documented back to John WHITAKER D. Nov. 27, 1713 who is believed to have been an indentured servant arriving in VA about 1690. This John WHITAKER is the GG/GF of my GGG/GM Catherine Whitaker WEST. In the McCOMIS or McCOMAS line the only information I have is the Elizabeth McComis listed on the DAR application. I am willing to share any information on the lines. Ralph WEST [email protected]
I am still here also, searching for Peter Whitaker 1805-1852 (Ashe Co., NC) who married Francis (Fanny) White c. 1831 in Ashe Co., NC. Peter and Fanny's children include: Lucy, 1831, m. Alphus Killen William, 1833, m. Elizabeth Lipps Frances, 1835, m. Solomon Yonts Thursa, 1835, m. Squire Bentley, and William Riley Hall Martha "Patsy," 1839, m. Thomas Hall (my great grandparents) John, 1841, m. Jane Vanover Isaac, 1844, m. Mary Bentley Wright Nancy, 1847, m. Reuben McFall Who are Peter's parents? Does anybody have any information on this line? One reason this list may be so quiet is because the Whitaker listowner has the replies to the Whitaker list programmed to automatically respond only to the sender, rather than the list. Unless the person replying catches this and manually changes it, the reply goes only to the original poster. This may have been done on purpose, I don't know. Being the listowner of two other lists, I know how that cramps communication on the list. Bev in St. Louis Listowner: BOGGS and MAGGARD

Hi Ladies, I just joined the list a few days ago. I got both yours, as you can see. But have not gotten any from the list. Because I did just join, I would say it is still active. My Whitaker is Nancy Ann marr. George Kirby. They were in Pineville Bell Co. KY in 1920. Their daughter is my Grandmother, Julie Kirby. I think that this is a wonderful idea. Many on the list are fairly new and we don't all know the lines that each is researching. I have had a wonderful response so far to "Is this list active?" Sorry, I don't have Almander, but it looks as though there are several on the list researching the KY Whitakers.
