Hi all, I too, am searching for info on a John Whitaker. He was born somewhere in Kentucky in 1854-55 and was one of several children, one sibbling was a sister Kate. He came to Indiana as a young boy and by 1885 was married to a Lillian New, She died in 1886 and he then married Mary Holmes in Clinton Co. IN in 1889. They had 3 children and he died in 1920, also in Clinton Co. IN. Need info on his parents and any other sibblings...... Happy Rooting, Kathy Venable

I have heard from someone looking for information on an Anderson Whitaker, born in the 1840's who married a Leeanne Napier wondering about a connection to my Anderson Whitaker, b. 1812 in NC who married Susannah Hughs. My husband and I are greatly interested in the various WHITAKER families who show up in Georgia by 1800, particularly those who were first in North Carolina. Bob's earliest proven WHITAKER ancestor is Joshua Whitaker of Richmond and Columbia Counties in Georgia. He was born in 1783 or 1784 in North Carolina, based on his age in the 1850 census. He died in 1852 in Columbia Co., GA. His wife, also from NC originally, was Jane GRACEY. We have nearly concluded that Joshua Whitaker descends from one of the children of William Whitaker and Elizabeth Carleton of PA and NC. We've eliminated many of the possibilities, but we are still looking at their sons William Jr. and Samuel, both of whom had sons named Joshua, also at Mark who was in NC, then GA, then SC. Part of our mystery is that there seems to have been some splicing of records from among two or three named Samuel Whitaker around 1800 in Georgia, and also at least two named Joshua Whitaker in the same period and area of Georgia. Here's a reposting of the info on my Whitaker line, specifically my gg grandfather Rev. Henry Whitaker. I hope someone out there has something else on his family. He was born December 30, 1843, in Blair Co., Pa., to Reuben Whitaker and his wife Nancy Tipton, both apparently born in Pa. He married Catharine Miller (1846-1920) in May 1864, then enlisted in the Union Army in August 1864 to avoid being drafted. He served as a corporal in Company C of the 205th Regiment of the Pa. Volunteer Infantry until he was honorably discharged at Alexandria, Va., on June 6, 1865. His ministry began in 1859 (at 16?), and he held charges in Harrisburg, Mt. Carmel, Elizabethtown, Landisville, Rohrerstown, Smithville, New Providence, Bainbridge, and Rowenna. His last charge was at Second Church of God in Lancaster. Henry's siblings were: Prof. Joseph T. Whitaker, George Whitaker, Reuben Whitaker, Susan Whitaker, Ellen Whitaker, Mrs. John Shoenfelt, and Mrs. Harriet Bollinger (of Hagerstown, Md.). His and Catharine's children were: Nancy (who died in infancy during the war), Robert M. Whitaker (1867-1921), Harry A. Whitaker (of Powls Valley), and Susan K. Dennis, I have a Margaret Whitaker born about 1833, probably in Indiana. Any idea where in Indiana yours was born? I have mine as marrying a Mathias ELMORE on 06-Jul-1852 but have nothing more on her. Mine was the daughter of John Whitaker and Catharine Wright. I think that this family may have have relatives in MO somewhere because of a family story, but have no idea who that would have been or where in MO. I am posting part of my family in a new e-mail to the list. I am not even positive that my Margaret even married this Elmore guy, or something may have happened to him and she could have married another man after. Do you know when and where your Margaret married by chance?
