    1. Western PA Whittakers
    2. Looking for an unknown Whittaker that possibly resided in western Pennsylvania around 1820. He was born in 1724 and died in 1828. This Whittaker lived to be a 104 years old! He had a grandson named ROBERT Whittaker (1820-1888). Robert was born in Logstown, Beaver County, Pennsylvania in 1820. He married Susan Wilkes in Ohio and had the following children: JOHN W. 1843-1844; JEMINA ANN 1844-1851; DAVID PORTER 1845-1924; FREEDOM HENRY 1847-1922; WILLIAM GEORGE 1849-1930 JOSIAH 1850-1918; ROBERT ORVAL 1851-1853; FRANK 1853-1921; DEFOREST 1856-1915; MARTHA JANE 1858-1860; MARGARET ANNA 1859-1941; MILO LEE 1861-1936 WILLIAM ELMER 1863-1912. Robert Whittaker's father (name unk) died when Robert was very young and he and his brother William raised by the above grandfather for a short time. My family notes say that the grandfather may be a descendant of Excellent (?) Whittaker from England. I have never seen this name mentioned anywhere! Thanks for any information you can provide. 2. Whitaker Robert S.
    3. Hi Nancy, MIM is an extension for MIME (Multiple Internet Mail Extensions) compliant email attachments that aren't handled properly by the mail service. The protocol by which email is transferred is limited to what us propeller-heads refer to as '7-bit ASCII', which by it's simplest definition means 'plain text'. Binary files like pictures or executable files cannot be transmitted via 7-bit ASCII without first being encoded. Once encoded these files must be decoded on the other end in order to be useful. Most encoding formats (and there are many) identify themselves in the first few lines of code. The mail server or client on the receiving end must read this identity and 'decode' the file back to a binary format. When the mail sever or client fails to identify the encoding format or is incapable of decoding the file, you wind up with the binary file in it's encoded (7-bit ASCII) state. I believe your computer is trying to associate these attachments with 'America Online' which is known to apply a '.mim' extension to it's attachments. There are several decoding programs available but often they require a fair amount of intuition to identify the encoding format and apply the proper decode technique. The ideal solution is to have this handled automatically by your mail system. What do you use as a mail client? -RSW > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Sunday, October 25, 1998 6:15 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: WHITAKER-D Digest V98 #111 > > > Hello all! He is the oldest child of John Adolphus Tillman Whitaker and Mary Margarette Cotton, he was born in Georgia (could be West Point) between 1880 and 1884. This family moved around a lot. He married Vinna Campbell SHACKELFORD, about 1906 in IL (possibly Mariam IL). Vinna died in June of 1919 in Casper WY. According to his father obituary he is still living in WY in 1922. He and Vinna had 4 children and the children were put in orphanages. When and where did he die ???? Gerrie

    3. Hi Wynona, The Whitaker Wanderings article gave the following on Mahala: Mahala, twin of Nathan, born 1840 married (1) William Jasper Fletcher in 1855. Their childrenwere: (1) John Harvy married Minnie Harrie - went to Texas c. 1880 (2)Mary Elizabeth (3) infant boy After William Fletcher died Mahal married Thomas Farmer, born 1825 in Fairfield C. S.C. they married in 1870 and reared the following children: (1) Rena Ann - died at 5 years (2) James Lewis - died at 2 years (named for James Whitaker and Lewis Farmer father of Thomas (3) infant son - died at birth twin (4) Sallie - twin married John Bearden (5) Joseph 1876 - married Lela Jane Sutphin b. 1882 It leaves off there and begins on another page talking about the Fletcher Family, McKinney Family, Dilworth Family, Buford family and Ikard Family. Mahala was born in 1840 so she would be 85 years old at the time she told all this to Ida Mae Whitaker her niece. The author of this article, whoever it was, went on to say that they believed that John Whitaker's ancestors were Joshua and Jane Parker Whitaker. Glad I could be of some help. 1. Robert from England
    2. Ann Berry
    3. I'll bet a lot of people on the list have a Robert Whitaker they suspect originated in England, UK. I have a Robert, baptised 1818 in Greasley, Nottinghamshire, then he disappeared. It is possible he moved to another county, or even another country. His parents were Thomas Whitaker and Frances (nee Stirland) who were married in Greasley, Notts. in 1817. Robert's siblings were: Alice 1820 (died a spinster in 1890), Ann 1823 (wed John Reeve), William 1825 (wed Charlotte Reeve). Their mother, died and Thomas, married Elizabeth Stirland in 1827. Children of Thomas & Elizabeth were: Frances 1828 (wed William Longdon), John born circa 1829 (wed Sarah Eaton), Thomas 1831 (wed Elizabeth Burton/Barton), George 1835 (wed Jane Tomlinson), Richard 1835 (unmarried in 1881 at Sneinton, Nottm) & Elizabeth 1837 (died in infancy). If anyone can throw a light on what happened to Robert, or can recognise any of the names here, please do let me know. Best wishes to all, Ann

    1. Re: Charles Herbert Whittaker
    2. Thanks Stacey, I tried that. I think that if he died, it would have been sometime around 1968. I know that he was called Hub. I think that he went back to West Virginia. He may have married again. The reason I say this is that a letter came to my mother after she died. It came from a woman in England, who said she was married to my father's brother. My sister wrote back to her and she said that my father had married again and had another daughter (Bobbie Joe or something). Of course, now that I want this information, my sister can't find it. My older sister said that he had two brothers, one of which married a woman from England. That's pretty much all I know. Thanks, Ginger

    1. Charles Herbert Whittaker
    2. Hi, My maiden name is Whittaker. My mother and father were divorced when I was 2 years old and we have not seen my father since. My mother died when I was young, so there was no one around to tell me about my father or his family. Now I am researching my family tree. I have lots of info on my mother's side, but of course nothing on my father's. I have a feeling that he died a few years after my mother did, because Social Security tried to contact my mother. When they found out that she was dead and my younger sister and I were collecting benefits from her, they said that we were already getting the maximum. They would not tell us why they were inquiring. The only information I have on him is what is on my Birth Certificate. His name is Charles Herbert Whittaker. He was born in Princeton, West Virginia about 1915. At the time of my birth, he was living in Baltimore, Maryland and his occupation is listed as a Trucker for Penn. Railroad. My mother's name was Helen Erma Ricks. My name is Virginia Marie Whittaker and my younger sister is Barbara Sue Whittaker. I am sorry for the lenght of this e-mail, but if anyone thinks that they can help me, I would love to hear from them. Any information on my father or any family members(past or present) would be great. Thanks, Ginger Whittaker Queen
