I am starting a small bed & breakfast in a town house in the South End of Boston--not South Boston but the South End (often confused). The reason for the name is that William H. I've been thinking how it would be interesting to know what he did, etc. His estate went to Jane Whitaker (daughter? in law?) and Alice Rodgers, which leads one to believe he had two daughters, Jane and Alice--or now that I think of it, Jane was probably his wife. Then in 1927, Catherine Rodgers sold the property to Morris Rosenthal--probably not from the Mayflower! :) That's about all I know. Let me know if any of this coincides with your family tree. 2. Karin, I received the Gedcom with Whitaker Family. Thanks for sending. I only briefly looked through the names, will spend more time on it later. I also had a problem finding facts on the Cooper Family. I found some data in the published town histories and other related family genealogies/ histories, of that area. Some are small threads of data, that seem to hold the family lines together. Meeting and working with cousins thru email sure helps. Keep in touch! 8-)) Bruce, [email protected]

    3. Got this from another list. I hope you all enjoy it. Lets say that your great-great uncle Remus Starr, a fellow lacking in character, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. A cousin has supplied you with the only known photograph of Remus, showing him standing on the gallows. On the back of the picture are the words: Remus Starr: Horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison, 1895. Escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton Detectives, convicted and hanged, 1889. Pretty grim situation, right? But let's revise things a bit. We simply crop the picture, scan in an enlargement and edit it with image processing software so that all that is seen is a head shot. Next, we rewrite the text: Remus Starr was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and imitate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1885, he devoted several years of his life to service at a government facility, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renown Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Uncle Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collasped. Now we give Uncle Remus a distinguished place inside the family tree, not hanging from it. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 3. Marcia, We've just started searching my husband's Whittaker's, and we don't have much. I was intrigued when I saw your message because my husband's family has a long history in Vevay, Switzerland Co. IN. Below, is a transcript from Susie Whittaker Bray's obituary. She was born March 10, 1902 in Henry Co.KY. She died Feb. 19, 1945 in Indianapolis, IN. You might find it interesting. Please let me know if you think any of it matches the Whittiker's you're looking for. Gretchen >From the obituary of Susie Ann Bray: Mrs. Susie Bray Dies At Local Hospital In Indianapolis Mrs. Susie Ann Bray, age 42, widow of William J Bray whose home was in Indianapolis, died February 19th at the Flower Mission Hospital in that city. She had been ill for three years suffering from tuberculosis. Mrs. Bray was a native of Henry County KY., but many years of her life were passed in Switzerland County. Mr. Bray died several years ago when he was fatally injured in a truck accident. Mrs. Bray was the mother of nine children all of whom survive as follows: Paul, overseas; Cecil S 2-C Davisville R.I.; William, Richard, Mrs. Beulah Pike, Verna Bonnie Ruth Bray, Anna Louise and Julia May, all of Indianapolis. She was a member of the U.B. denomination and was devoted to her church and her family. She also leaves her parents Mr. and Mrs. William B Whittaker; two brothers Melvin R., and Eugene L. Whittaker of Indianapolis and a sister, Mrs. Freda Dunshere of Grand Rapids, Mich. Funeral services were February 21st at an Indianapolis funeral home and interment was made in Floral Park cemetery there. 1. WHITAKER of Wake County
    2. Elizabeth Whitaker
    3. I'm a descendant of John Whitaker (~1740-1823), who had three wives. The first two were Elizabeth Hardy and Ferebee (Pheriba) Pearson. My information is that I'm descended from the Hardy marriage: does anyone have any documentation on that marriage? (It's in the Patriot Index and I've seen it in a marriage, but I haven't seen any *documentation* on it.) (I don't live anywhere near Raleigh.) My descent from John Whitaker is through his oldest(?) son, Hugh Hardy Whitaker (1765-1849), who moved to the Pendleton District around 1800 with his wife, Polly Perry, and her family. I'm not sure why, but he was a carpenter and a "classleader," a type of Methodist lay preacher. Elizabeth Whitaker [email protected]
