In reply to your request dated Sept. 6: Robert Hamilton married Lula Elizabeth Whaley. William Lewis is actually Lewis Williams. (His son Carl, living, insists that his grandmother's maiden name was Jerdan, not Jordan). Ollie was shot to death in January 29, 1912. He somehow got in the way of two other men in a gunfight on the streets of Dallas. He was carrying a bible. Edward P. was born June 25, 1887 and lived 8 mos. All of this came from a letter dated 8/29/54 from Lula Whaley Hamilton, and verified by Lillie Whaley Drake on 8/23/68. ( I recently received this.) Um, since John's death certificate does not list his parents, and there is no obit in the paper from that time, do you have any other ideas as to where to look for his parents? I'll try the 1860 census in Texas, next, since he enlisted in the CSA in Dallas in 1863. There are 2 listings in the 1860 South Carolina Slave Schedule for a John C. Whaley, but none for this John personally. Is that possible? Also, I found a John C. Calhoun Whaley in the 1840(?, I can't find it right now) SC census, but he appears to be too young. Once you get past what is known, how do you tie a person to his name? Thanks so much for your excellent help! Deborah Whaley Weatherford, TX
