Over the 20 plus years I've been on the trail of this illusive Whaley many researchers have sent me excerpts from those papers! I have quite a collection. It's piecing together the puzzle to zero in on the right James Whaley that has been the main problem as there were so many of that same name during this same period of time that I've had trouble distinguishing them one from the other. The latest clue came just last week with a land purchase by a James Whaley of Washington Parish, Westmoreland County, in 1728 . . . the same year another James Whaley (d. 1784, Loudoun Co, VA) was born in New Kent County. These two families have been confused as one and the same by many researchers. This, at last, makes a clear distinction, at least in MY mind. Now, I just need to find out where in Westmoreland County this Washington Parish was in relation to Old Ordinary to see if the James who was Robert "King" Carter's overseer at Old Ordinary Plantation might be the same one who also purchases this plot of land in Stafford County! Oh, me. More diggin'! Thanks for the clue, though. Every bit helps. : ) Carolyn Carolyn Whaley Vosburg Houston, TX
