Bill, Here's that reference which shows the Daniel McCarty connection with a James Whaley: Abstracts of Virginia's Northern Neck Warrants & Surveys, 1697-1784, Vol. IV, Compiled by Peggy Shomo Joyner, pp. 97-98. " Robert Carter, Esq., (this is the grandson of Robert "King" Carter!) 17 Sept. 1766-18-Oct 1766, reserv. of 27 Feb. 1729.* There are no folders numbered 1,2 & 3 in the Loudoun County File. The first folder is 4, apparently continued from the three folders in the preceding county of Lancaster. pat: 14,847 acres including 1,949 acres surplus in bounds of his property; on Broad, Frying Pan & Horsepen Runs, the Ox Road & the main road from Alexandria to Leesburg; adj. Capt. Daniel McCarty's Sugar Land Tract, Noland (in wart. only), Col. Wm. Fitzhugh, John Fitzhugh, Bartlett (now sd. Carter's), Thomas Lord Fairfax. Four nearby tracts are drawn on a plat for John Thomas, Thomas Barn's 2,211 a. pat., Francis Barn's 1,744 a. pat & John Lynton's 509 a. pat. "Total Survey 21,037 Acres, four Elder Pattons 6,190 acres - Remains 14,847 a. CC - Henry Robinson & JAMES WHALEY, JR. Survey John Hough. Filed in Oversize box." My Revolutionary War Patriot, James Whaley, held Carter lands on Broad Run in Loudoun Co, VA at his death in 1785, which passed to his son, William.
