Hi all! I've only posted a few times before, but I get a great deal out of reading all the messages. (Often answers to questions I never thought of asking!) Anyhow, I just wanted to share my FIRST real bit of research... Since I became interested, I have just been finding what I could on the internet, but I have now taken it one step further... I was interested in the origin of Whaley, TX - in Bowie County. I had a great grandfather who ranched there, & thought there might be a connection. I wrote (snail mail) to the Texarkana USA Genealogical Society, and got a wonderful letter back. Whaley, TX was named after a family from Marshall, TX - so no relation to me, but I'm sure someone will find this interesting. Also, the kind lady who wrote back to me says that she went through an index of Bowie County Marriage Licences that were never picked up by the couple... and my Great Grandparents 1909 licence is there!
