To Deb Jackson from Jackie Weeden-- "Your birthdate and place for Gene--b Sandusky OH Aug. 1, 1938 fits in. I took another *CLOSER* look at the 1920 Soundex census records. I found a Henry Whaley in 1920 in Sandusky, Erie Co OH, unmarried, living with his mother Susan. He was 26, b OH. This is very close. So...I know how it is to have family lore handed down and how hard it is to prove it wrong. The 1824 birthdate of the Anne you were given would make her over 60 when she had Henry. Impossible !? OK, we can send you John's pension application where he says he was b England. But we need your PO address. Also, we can send a Family Group Sheet for John and Susan Ann Alspauch giving Henry as a child and 6 brothers and sisters. I will make some adjustments to it and add the 1920 Census Soundex record and send it by attachment. I would like to know what all you have on Henry. Who did he marry--when and where? When and where did he die? What were his children's names? If he died in 1963, there should be a death certificate at the courthouse in the county where he died, also an obituary in the newspaper for that day. Try to get those so you have more proof."
