Annette, thanks for your response. I am forwarding our correspondence to the Whaley list in case there are other descendants of Alexander and Margarette Hays. I think someone is trying to establish a Whaley DNA depository so comparisons may be made to connect descendants. I can't explain how DNA works but I know it has to be from son to son on down. Maybe someone else can explain the "X" and "Y" chromosome thing. You said Riley's first wife was Martha Lamberson. Is she the same as Lucinda on the 1880 census? That census also shows sons Robert and James (or Jasper). On the 1910 census, Tennessee was shown with sons John, Mid (Middleton ?), and W. H. Alexander and Margarette had 3 sons that I know of: Middleton Benefield, Riley P. and William A.. I haven't found Middleton in later years but William A. shows 1 son, Truman B. in the 1880 Independence Co census. If anyone is related to these sons, please let us know.
