    3. Greetings- I would like to be sure I am interpreting the DNA results correctly. The descendant postings on FamilyTreeDNA under the Whaley surname are here: http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/w/whaley/pats.html The actual Y-test results are here: http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/w/whaley/results.html The first page seems to show that Y-results have been posted for three people: W-1 is not labeled, so I'm not sure who was tested, but his ancestor was James Whaley, Sr. W-2 looks like Charles M. Whaley was the person tested, and his ancestor was George Powell Whaley, Sr. W-3 looks like Marcus Wright Whaley was the person tested, and his ancestor was John Whaley. The Y-test results page shows the actual markers for persons W-1, W-2, and W-3. I counted the differences in the first 12 columns to get the 12-marker genetic distance for each pair per the instructions at: http://www.ysearch.org/help.asp?uid I get total differences using 12 markers of 7, 12, and 15. According to the instructions for interpreting a 12-market test, these Whaleys all have a most recent common ancestor thousands of years back, so each of these three is completely unrelated to the others. Is this the correct interpretation of the results? -Bob -----Original Message----- From: whaley-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:whaley-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mike Sent: Wednesday, November 29, 2006 4:34 PM To: whaley@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WHALEY] DNA Interest List Issac Whaley, Can you post your DNA results on Family Tree DNA? 3. Once your DNA is tested. Family Tree DNA sends you the results and post them on Whaley DNA Project. Once you upload them to ysearch.org (All this is explained on the FamilyTreeDNA website) you can do a comparison with your login ID to the rest of the world! Not just other Whaley's. I do not get one red cent or kick backs from any group for this. I just happened to be the second person to ask for a DNA test and to be added to the Whaley Surname Project and Whaley DNA Project. This endeavor is to try and make connections where the paper trail falls short. As far as the logistics for analyzing all the data and who will be responsible; The good people at Family Tree DNA and Ysearch.org are extremely helpful in every aspect of DNA analysis. The laymen are not expected to know how to interpret the results. That is what you pay the lab to do. The more comprehensive the test, the better the data yielded. Please understand that I have no vested interest in getting people to have their DNA tested other than to see how our branches tie together or not.
