>From Jackie Weeden-- Dear Gene Hardy Whaley and cousin Clara Spivey, etal-- I, too, am disappointed that the records re James Ratliff Whaley that you were seeking were not in Dale Co AL at Ozark. So the Courthouse records burned, and the Church records burned, and the Library newspapers did not go back to 1924! Here are some more things to try: 1. The present Funeral Home in Ozark is: Shaffer Funeral Home, Hwy 64 West, Ozark, AL, 72949 Phone 501-667-4147 Write, call or go there in person and ask if they have records back to 1924 and if not, who does?? 2. For old AL newspapers, which contain obituaries, write to : Alabama Archives and History Department World War Memorial Building Montgomery AL, 36104. 3. For death certificates back to 1908 write to: Bureau of Vital Statistics Department of Public Health Montgomery, AL, 36130. (Perhaps they had the Ozark records on file before the fire.) I am puzzled as to why Edward Whaley and Elizabeth Caldwell of Greene Co GA are being 'suspected' as being the parents of James Ratliff Whaley. What is the reason for this possible connection? Ruby has taken on locating the correct marriage date for this couple. If it is 1803, then Elizabeth Caldwell could NOT be the mother of James R, as James' mother Elizabeth was born in 1802. If it is 1830, then it is POSSIBLE that they are the parents of James R., but not a sure fact. We will have to wait and find out which date is correct. You asked if I wanted ALL of the names and dates of the Whaleys and their spouses that you found in the Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery. Yes, I would like them. Are you sure the cemetery records burned, also? Or is there a sexton somewhere in Ozark that has the lists of who is buried there??? ?Happy? Hunting Jackie Weeden
