I just got back from the Fort Worth Library. This is what I found out by checking the 1850 census and Wills and Probates from Abbeville, South Carolina: Lewis Whaley is the father of John Calhoun He died 12/7/1850. He was a War of 1812 veteran. Elizabeth (Starlen) Whaley is the daughter-in-law of Lewis. She was married to William Whaley (Lewis' son) on 10/24/44. William died 5/22/1845 and she evidently lived with Lewis, Demaris (Damaus), and John Calhoun, after his death. On the 1850 census, these Whaleys are surrounded by Calhouns, so I am going to check to see if John's mother was either a Calhoun or a Williams (in reference to John's son's name: Lewis Williams) Anyway, you are wonderful.
