Does anyone know where or when the name Middleton originated in the Whaley family? I am descended from Alexander Whaley and his second wife, Margarette Ann Hays. Their second child was "Middleton Benefield Whaley" b. ca 1835 TN. I just think it is strange to have 2 Alexanders with sons, Middleton and not be related. Can anyone shed light on this?? The 2nd wife of George Edward Whaley was Elizabeth Middeleton sister of George Middleton. Her two grandsons, Charles Thomas and William, came to Edisto SC and spread out in to SC. The name Middleton runs thru my family also. That is why I'm trying to connect the TN , SC and MD Whaley's with DNA testing.
