To Ruby-- We just talked on the phone about the repeat of the incorrect belief that William M. Whaley (wife, Mary Ann Ogle) of SC and TN was a son of the Alexander Whaley of Kings Co. NY. The Whaley Search Party had several entries regarding this same error in Digests in 1997, 1998 and 1999. In Digest 1998, issue 54, there were several entires by Ruby and Jackie, Carolyn Vosburg, David Beckwith and George Whaley and all seemed to be quite informative on the subject. Alexander Whaley of NY was not called John Alexander in any of the public records that I searched. Nor was he ever called John Alexander in any of the published books in which the family is mentioned. It was just Alexander Whaley!! All fourteen of his children were born in NY. He did have a son named William L. who was born in 1774 in Kings Co. NY. Apparently William M. Whaley (wife, Mary Ann Ogle) was born 1788 SC. Alexander Whaley lived his entire life in NY and died there in 1833. His will would definitely seem to eliminate the William M. Whaley of SC as being related to him. William M. Whaley and his family are mentioned in the book, 'Smoky Mountain Clan'. by Donald B. Reagan. There are also some WSP members who are listed on the Oldest Ancestor List under both Alexander Whaley (m. Abigail Leverich) and William M. Whaley (m. Mary Ann Ogle). So, it would seem that the listing would need to be under one or the other,--not both. Jackie I have located the Digest 54 from 1998 that Jackie mentions--if I get time I will copy the pertinent parts and send them to the group. rlnsd
