    2. Paul Whaley
    3. Many of my family went to Bourbon and Harrison County between the Revolution and the WBTS. Benjamin Whaley went to Bourbon County where he died in the 1830's. My ggrandfather James Cannon Whaley, was born there in 1835. The family intermarried with many of the locals to include Talbots and Spears. I have photographs of James, his 2nd cousin, David Moreland Whaley (b. 1822 in Pa, son of a hero of the War of 1812. David went to Texas, became a member of the legislature, raised company C of the 5th Texas Infantry, and was killed in action as a major 22 August 1862 in Virginia. I also have a period photograph of E. Clarence Whaley of South Carolina in CS uniform of the 3rd SC cavalry. The cardboard backing is 1880-ish and has E.C. Whaley's service record outlined on the back in the distinct hand of a great uncle of Uniontown, Pa. Just wish I knew who James' (1728 Loudoun County) father had been. 3. Paul, We've never been able to make any connection between your James b. 1728, Loudoun Co, VA and MY James d. 1785 in Loudoun Co., VA, father of this Edward, sad to say. For years the two men by the same name caused all kinds of confusion seeing as how they were both in the same county at the same time. But, they are definitely different branches of Whaleys. We are still on the look-out for the father of our James whereas your previous ancestor has been identified fairly accurately, if I remember correctly. If we keep going back even further, we MAY find a connection somewhere along the lines. : ) Keep searchin', Carolyn My research online: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=lynvos On Jul 1, 2006, at 11:23 AM, Paul Whaley wrote: > Carolyn, > > Is this man related to the James born in 1728 in Loudon County from > which came Benjamin (b. 1760) and my line? > > > Paul > ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carolyn Vosburg" > <lynvos@sbcglobal.net> > To: <WHALEY-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, July 01, 2006 9:46 AM > Subject: [SPAM] [WSP] Capt. 1. Capt. Edward Whaley of Marion Co, MO
    2. Carolyn Vosburg
    3. My ancestor, a perfect gentleman!!!! Who would have thought??? : ) Carolyn From: http://www.rootsweb.com/~momarion/1901hist.htm In 1826 the Sacs and Foxes ceded to the United States the lands north of North River, and in the same year Marion County was independently organized. Black Hawk came up from St. Louis, with his canoes in a measure ballasted with silver half-dollars. Some of these canoes were five feet wide. He ran up the bay and bought some corn from Edward Whaley, the settler. Seeing that Black Hawk was about to make the squaws carry the corn to the canoes, Whaley hitched tip his team and hauled it.
