When we first established the Whaley Search Party years ago, I attempted to maintain an Oldest Whaley Ancestor List. This list gave the names of each person who was hooked up to the WSP according to the oldest Whaley they had in their family tree. Then, later, other people like George Whaley and Allen Richmond tried to keep up with all of the new people and the continuous changes in email addresses, and they made changes to older ancestors as "members" broke through their brick walls. Now, seems like we need to update that list again. I will send the list out in sections as it is way too long to send all at once. If you see your name listed and it's under the wrong ancestor, OR if you see a "cuzzin" whose email address has changed and we happen to have the wrong address, please let me know that, too. If you don't see your name listed at all, please send me your name and the name/date/places of your oldest Whaley using the format of the List, please. * * * * OLDEST WHALEY ANCESTOR CHART W/VARIANT SPELLINGS: Revised 6/08/06 WALE Edward Wale (m. Lynn, Which Alexander Whaley is that? On our Oldest Whaley Ancestor List there are two: Alexander Whaley (m. Abigail Leverich), 1748 - 1833 Alexander Whaley, Sr. (m. Ruth McAnally), 1789/90 - 1850 If you'll shoot me which one, I can pull up all of the names of people who are connected to him. Of course, we need to update that list, so the fellow you're looking for MIGHT not be there, but it would be a start. : ) Carolyn On Jul 2, 2006, at 3:52 PM, lhalti@comcast.net wrote: > To the decendents of Alexander Whaley. Justin, Good thought. I have been working on this for 30 years off and on. Having been an Air Force Brat born far from the family, most of whom were elderly or already dead when I started looking, it has been an uphill climb. I feel sure that connections will be made at some point and likely sooner than later with the number of Whaley's that have become interested. Carolyn, This James then is the father of James born in 1728? My Benjamin was a son of the 1728 James. This is more than I had. One step further back. I agree. I also have noticed that the Whaley name is not a common name by any means and in a way that makes it a bit easier as we dont have to dig through names as much. I have to say Paul I think it would clear up a lot for the different Whaley branches once we get to across the pond. I have been taking a few different history classes on colonization and revolution of America to help get an idea on the period to better help us trace our ancestry. Speaking of which I have found out that the majority of those who came to the cololnies were indentured servants in the 17th century. They were poor or homeless who signed a contract to come work for a planter for 4 or more years. The planter would pay thier way and after the contract was up he would be given either land or money. It is possible one of our ancestors was an indentured servant for the Carter family. That would explain why we were given Carter lands and then made Overseer of his plantations. Since James Sr. and Jr. were both overseer's for Carter and this possible third James before them. Its an idea anyways. Here is the entry for the father of your James, I believe.
