    1. [WHALEY] George R. Whaley of Pawling NY
    2. Hi all, I just joined this list. I recently returned from settling the estate of an aunt in Florida, who had a lot of genealogical materials on our family, much of it compiled by her grandmother, Elizabeth Lutz Washburn. Included with a Washburn family bible were some lists including this one related to the Whaley family that I thought I would post. Elizabeth's sister Annie Lutz maried George R. Whaley, and they are buried in Pawling Cemetery. She was born Feb. 9,1869 and died Oct.20, 1937. Her husband was born August 19, 1873 and he died in 1955. I have some info that they had a son Kenneth, born June 23, probably in 1902, and also have listings in a birthday date book for Mildred Whaley Feb 18th, and Ruth Whaley May 1st, but no years listed, and they are probably also their children. The following is the handwritten list, which only included birthdates, probably written by my great grandmother Elizabeth or her sister Annie: G.W. Whaley Sr. June 1849 Jane Whaley March 9, 1848 children Alice July 20, 1865 Lizzie August 9, 1867 Carrie Dec. 10, 1869 Geo. R. Aug.19, 1873 Sherman Apr. 23, 1875 Wm. T. June 11, 1878 Ed Jan. 7, 1881 Jennie May 13, 1883 Addie Oct. 31, 1885 Olive Aug 26, 1889 The middle initial T. in Wm. T. might possibly be an F, there is sort of a flourish in the script at the top of the letter, though the stem isn't crossed. I had also picked up this additional info from a post on this list in the archives, that the elder George Whaley was born June 15, 1849 and died Jan. 5, 1933. He married Jane Ross, born March 9, 1848 in Enniskillen Ireland, who died on Jan. 29, 1934. They would have been rather young when they married, but I suspect this was not unusual for the time. Their child Alice A. Whaley is mentioned , b.July 20, 1865 - d. August 10, 1937. (My thanks to that poster!) Hope this might be of interest to someone, best regards, Richard Singleton

    1. RE: [WSP] Richard Whalley, the Younger, Lord Mayor of London?
    2. Frank Whalley
    3. Bob According to Rev. Mark Noble (Memoirs of the Protectoral House of Cromwell), this Richard was Sheriff of Nottingham, but he doesn't say the year. For many people, the only things they know about the civic offices of Sheriff of Nottingham and Lord Mayor of London are from fairy stories - Robin Hood in one case and Dick Whittington and his Cat in the other. I just wonder whether the writer of your source of information has confused these in their mind and written one when really meaning the other. Noble also says Richard was elected a member of Parliament for Boroughbridge in the 43rd year of Elizabeth 1st (1600). (The only Boroughbridge I know about is in North Yorkshire). 3. John- Thank you. I am sorry to have sidetracked you by not including the timeframe for Richard Whalley in my original message. The Richard Whalley ("the Younger") I am asking about was born in the 1550-1570 timeframe. He was the grandson of the very wealthy Richard Whalley ("the Elder") who lived from 1499-1583. If it is true Richard the Younger was Lord Mayor of London, I would speculate it would have been around 1600, say plus or minus twenty years. -Bob -----Original Message----- From: Jrhmdtraum@aol.com [mailto:Jrhmdtraum@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, August 26, 2006 12:58 PM To: WHALEY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WSP] Richard Whalley, the Younger, Lord Mayor of London?
